Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SCGB facilitated my transition from average piste skier with no mates who ski, to off-piste junkie with more skiing mates of similar ilk than I can shake a pole at. Freshtracks hols and reps are worth every penny.

Increasingly on this site I have noticed that way more people are happy with the Ski Club than not.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Perhaps the Ski Club officials on here have changed their attitude to be less confrontational?
Since Tim Brown has gone away there are certainly less arguements.

Boredsurfing, I guess snowHeads are now appreciating the club for what it is, not just an object of historical prejudice.

I joined the club almost under false pretences! Responding to a thread here about getting off-piste experience and kids' lessons, snowcrazy sorted out my children with the local director of ESF and invited me to spend some time out with him. Only on seeing him turn up in a green jacket did I realise that he was SCGB. As with so many of us, I found that I didn't so much need tuition as just place myself in situations to push my abilities. Which snowcrazy did in spades! He was superb in watching where I was confident or not, adjusting the itinerary accordingly. At no point was there any instruction but you tend to apply subliminally what you know. I thought I knew Les Arcs but during that week and one a month later (when I spent most days with the rep) I spent less time on-piste than I could ever have hoped for.

Needless to say, I joined the club willingly (I'd budgeted £100 for off-piste lessons that week anyway) and have got to say I did enjoy most of the company (although there was a bit of an "atmosphere" towards the "SH insurgents"! OK, I recognise that the reps can't go too far off-piste nowadays but, for my ability, its been money well spent. In any event, I've covered the membership costs several times over with 10% off apartments and a TO trip for this year.

On top, I got an extra season for joining in resort and the website is quite good, except for the Members' Chat forum, which is lame in the extreme wink

I agree that the chat forum is much quiter than here, but is a totally different set up. Sometimes it drives me mad but I do go back as there are some decent posters on there who are there all year and not just throwing in 'you should all be wearing helmet' threads in season. Maybe if more members posted?

Well, I'm not a rep, long past it, but I ever wish I had shifted myself years ago and tried for it. Jackets to Reps only. They are not just worn, they have to be won.

I have just looked at the ski club message board and in fact there have been posts on over 30 topics today.

Now that is nothing like the volume here, but it does show as far as I am concerned that it does provide a useful service to ski club members.

If somebody asks a question about a resort or equipment for example, they will usually get prompt and good advice. You could ask the same question on Snowheads and get far more advice but with respect to all those that give advice here, after the first few posts a lot of the comments are a little bit repetitive.

I have time on my hands at the moment so following all the posts here is not much of a problem but when I am busy, most topics of real importance come up on the ski club board anyway and with the lower volume of activity, it's easier to stay up to date.

So as far as I am concerned the ski club's board serves a useful purpose.

AFAIK they are for reps only (and probably tour leaders). Not available to the general public.
