Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ADVICE ON Plagne Centre/ Araucaria Hotel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Heading to La Plagne for 24th Jan. Will book today.

Due to availability and limited choice from Scotalnd, I have a choice between Plagne Centre and Belle Plagne.

Plagne Centre: Araucaria Hotel. Is it ok for 6 nights of food and sleep. More Importantly what is access like for my partner who is only on her second Ski holiday (she will be taking lessons A.M). Is it close to Ski School area and are there many Green/Blue runs around Plagne Centre?

Belle Plagne: Carline Hotel ? (altho I think this is slightly over budget) but would pay extra if the difference was justified in terms of accomodation, better runs for my partner/access to Ski Schools.

ABOUT 600 GBP DIFFERENCE.

Any Info greatly appreciated as I usually Ski Austria/Italy so not got much knowledge oF la Plagne (cant change resort due to meeting friends!)

thanks in advance for info.

SCOTT, I can't answer for Plagne Centre but I have stayed at Belle Plagne twice. Belle Plagne is pretty much ski in ski out and I wouldn't expect any problems getting to ski school from any of the Belle Plagne accomodation. I suspect from skiing through Plagne Centre that the worst case would be a bit of walking to the ski school lessons but I'm sure someone with more knowledge of Plagne Centre will be able to help.

If were going to La Plagne I woudn't consider Plagne Centre over Belle Plagne unless the costs were considerably lower, in which case I could be swayed.

SCOTT, Both are nice new hotels use the Carlina regularly for a pit stop it is a great place as is Belle Plagne however..........the situation of the hotel in Plagne Centre would be easier for a beginer as the hotel is nearly opposite the nursery area

SCOTT i've been to La Plagne 4 times including last year- went as a beginner with really young kids (can now ski - thankfully) I echo everything redrunmarcus said, there is a great green run to learn on right in Plagne centre and you get used to getting on and off the chairlift on it = there is a small walk to the ski school (about 3 mins). HOWEVER in the evenings Plagne centre it is dead whilst Belle Plagne is far more lively and Belle Plagne would still be great for a learner. So if your not bothered about the evenings it would be Plagne centre but if you would like a variety of restaurants and bars in the evenings it's got to be Belle Plagne - hope this helps Smile

SCOTT, as Marcus says the Plagne Centre: Araucaria Hotel is ideal for the beginners area, but please if you stay there ask your wife to look both ways BEFORE walking out onto the piste. I was nearly floored by two women deep in converstion walking out onto the piste skis horizontal over their shoulders from that hotel without even looking to see if there were any other skiers about Shocked

I would avoid Plagne Centre perosnally, as I think BP is easier to ski in /out of, whereas PC is just a traffic jam, and it's a pain getting from one side to another - although my top tip from yesterday is if coming from Aime La Plagne, then take the left hand teleski 'Z' , nr the bottom of becoin, as this then gets you high enough to ski down to Gd. Rochette and/or Melezes

Feedback appreciated.

I might have a way to book flights and hotel for Carlina Hotel Belle Plagne at a cheaper price, then all I have to find is a way to book Ski Hire and Tuition for my wife.

Any suggestions for Ski Hire and Ski School booking in Belle Plagne?

Thanks again.

SCOTT, I used snowrental.net last year in Belle Plagne and it was fine. I also had an outstanding instructor from ESF called Fred Le Moullec if you wanted to arrange a private lesson. My friends did ESF group lessons, and as is so often the case, had mixed experiences.

SCOTT, I haven't used them recently but have noticed that Oxygene have much smaller classes than ESF in Plagne Centre.

Scott,

IMHO I'd opt for Centre, not so pretty, but for your partner, there are plenty of confidence giving blue runs. Oxygen ski school are good and tend to socialise a bit more with their students which is unusual for france.
