Poster: A snowHead

Dear Snowheads,
This is my first post so please be gentle.
I have booked my first snowboarding holiday to Sauze d'Oulx, going Feb 8th for a week.
Being complete beginners the tour op (Nelson) suggested a beginner snowboarder pack (level-0) as a cost of £295 per person.
This includes equipment hire, lessons for 3 days (3 hours per day, 12 people max in a class) and lift pass (all lifts).
I am trying to keep the cost of this holiday down as much as possible without ruining it. Therefore I wanted to check with Snowheads before parting with £590 of my hard earned cash, to see if £295pp is a competitive price, or whether I could save more by organizing it myself?..
Does anyone know of any decent board shops / instructors in Sauze?... or should I just take the tour op's advice?..
Many thanks,
Drew.

hi there - not sure about the value of the pack (i suspect it is pretty good) but when i learned to ski a small group of us (4) paid for private tuition rather than ski school - i think this was probably miles better. obviously with a smaller group you get more attention from the instructor - watching ski schools moving along at a snails pace only as quickly as the slowest/most nervous beginners would have killed me!!! That said I am an impatient git!

You lift pass wil be about £120?
Hire for the week £90?
So you are being charged about £80 for the lessons.
So it sounds about right to be fair.
You might save £30 if you book it yourself but you will have all the hassle of sorting it out and you don't want to waste slope time going to the hire shop etc. Though most things can be booked in advance online.
However, for the first couple of days you will be in the beginers area and some moutains don't charge for use of this. Might be worth checking, no point in paying for a lift pass until you need it.

Big_Drew, I agree about the lift pass point. Went to Tignes last year and the rep sold 2 of our mates full lift passes along with beginners lessons. they never touched the mountain lift system till day 4 and even then when you are on a lesson you don;t need the pass !!! total rip off

Big_Drew, not too sure how much you will get out of a lesson with 12 peeps at the 'here is a board' level, you may well be better off getting some private lessons with your mates, learning quicker and getting better value from your lift pass (rather than saving money) by seeing a bit more of the mountain rather than watching 11 others fall trying to get off their bums? just a thought. Equipment hire can be hit and miss and the flexibility of walking out of the designated hire shop may be worth paying for
