Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does anyone know how much chartering a standard boeing plane costs, i.e. the ones that fly Gatwick to Geneva?

Don't know, but maybe an approximation could be based on an Easyjet A319 having 156 passengers. Suppose the average fare paid is £100 on Easyjet then the flight takes in £15,600. Beyond this sum I leave the profit/loss/overhead analysis to others. Also my average fare may be very wrong.

No Ideas but about 15 years ago an A320 (I think that's what it was) would have cost arround £5,000 to make a similar journey i.e out full to Geneva and back empty followed up the next week by an out empty back full, prices of course since then have gone up, your best bet would be to fly from one of teh regional airports as they have more flexibility when it comes to that sort of thing, I'd investigated using Palmair's spare capacity flying from Bournemouth airport

A midsize private jet for 10 people from London City to Geneva Grand will currently set you back about US$100 - 150k.

Whitegold, don't know who you've been talking to but a Jetstream 2 with capacity for 22 passengers is arround £12,000 for a day return no where near the $100-150K mark and smaller jets are cheaper.

plectrum, Realistically you need to allow up to £30,000 for a medium sized passenger aircraft of say 150 passengers or about £200 per head, you might be able to get a reduction on this if the aircraft can pick up other people from a nearby location after or before it has dropped you off or picked you up but don't count on it
