He has now spent two nights in the car in Cortina. It snowed last night so I hope he managed to get out of it this morning. I believe he used the funnel arrangement this morning - see earlier posting if you don't know what this means but I expect you can guess!
Hope to speak to him tonight and will post a full up-date tomorrow. If he's spending a third night in the car tonight I don't think I'd want to get up close and personal.

Sorry - I've been rather tied up at work over the last couple of days. Warrell spent three nights in the car in Cortina - the last one rather disturbed by someone frantically digging their car out of the snow in the middle of the night - apparently it took one and a half hours!
Public access to the internet in Italy is restricted which has meant no postings from the traveller - and no video clips on YouTube!
He drove to Innsbruck yesterday and spent the night in a hotel - hurray, he has had a bath.
I don't think there has been much in the way of skiing going on and he is now heading back towards Dunkirk to catch the midnight ferry to Dover on Friday night after one more night in the car. I'll be glad to have him back but he seems to have enjoyed himself.

Its no wonder there is a retro theme going on in Cortina. Its a good way of maintaining the towns pre-eminence amongst the top ski resorts by discouraging the 'pile it high and sell it to all' innovations of ski tourism. Although this doesnt make the ski bums lot a totally happy one it does mean that the ambience can be soaked up for a good many euros less. There are no hostels and a single room was not to be found: a double would set me back at least a ton. Such circumstances and the return of the snow has meant at least three nights in the car. This situation was just what I anticipated when dreaming up 'The Last Resort' and I am happy to report that even the funnel came into its own this morning! A good session in the shower is much anticipated as would a return to a cosy free wifi spot. The Italian practice of shutting up shop for three hours in the middle of the day hasnt helped my energy levels but this has been offset by the frequency of the noddy ski bus which can take me to and fro my residence, casa wozza. I even boiled the kettle and had a pot noodle last night so it sure feels like home. This is an experience I will cherish when back curled up on the couch with themissus

Warrell, well done! I hope you enjoyed the trip - it was certainly interesting to follow your exploits.
One question: did you fit winter tyres to your car? Did you have chains with you, did you use them? How were the road conditions for your trip? Well, actually three/four questions

thanks espri, i didnt have winter tyres but the front ones were newish and their size, width and compound made them a fair bet. I bought chains in worzburg and used them to cross the two passess out of cortina. I have posted two videos made at either end of this epic climb of course i always planned only to drive in good weather on clear roads and this worked for me. I would not have risked driving during or soon after precipitation with my set-up. I enjoyed my trip very much and learnt a good deal that i hope will stand me in good stead for the future.
