do electronic lift passes generally come with a hole in the for a lift pass holder as my wifes coat has no inside pocket
as we dont want to mix the lift pass with everything else in pockets

No. Ideally it needs a pocket to itself, and certainly one free of metal objects, mobile phones and bank cards.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ours have holes in, and we find the best thing is an elastic round the neck, under the clothes (they provide the elastics at the caisse). Leaves the pockets free, much less chance of losing it, and it's readable by readers on either side of the entrance.

Most jackets these days have a small pocket on the left sleeve just for this purpose - has your wife got one of these?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

pam w, if you keep it round your neck you have to take it off and on each day which hugely incresaes the chance of losing it whereas if you put it in the little pocket at the front of the jacket then you never have to touch it.

I'm not convinced.
If it is in a permanently zipped pocket, on its own, then there is virtually no chance of losing it. On an elastic, it could snap, or you could forget it in the morning.
And I haven't yet come a cross a reader that isn't on the left, in the Dolomites or Austria, so the "either side" thing is irrelevant.
But the ones in Austria and the Dolomites that I have come across haven't got holes for elastics anyhow.

There are some in Les Gets. Just meant you had to wave your arm on the right rather than the left.

Awkward if the pass is in a pocket on your left side or arm.

Worked OK in my wrist pocket, but would have been a pain if it was in a hip pocket.

In Austria all the readers are on the left and they have high and low sensors.
So for 3 seasons I have kept my pass in my left trouser pocket with nothing else in.
And yes... it has been the same pass for 3 years now! (although different trousers)

I came across a place in Italy with sensors on the right....it was a real pain, as my pocket is on the upper arm.

Dont keep your pass by your mobile phone - it will prevent the sensors from reading it. My Tog-24 kit has the pass holders on the right so Elizabeth B, perhaps I should go to your Italian resort to avoid comedy contortions to get through the gate (or going backwards through the walk ins)

I was surprised, when I looked, to find that my ticket (Kitzbühel Alps) doesn't have a hole in it. Equally surprised to find that I had it packed in a little plastic "envelope" with a hole for attaching a normal zip-type ski pass gizmo. Having it in a sleeve is the best solution, though, particularly if you have a little pocket that you don't use for anything else. Trouser pockets work too, as flangesax says.

alpe d'huez lift pass did not have a hole.
usually one day passes have a hole, but the credit card ones don't have a hole

tend to keep my lift pass in trousers too as I keep everything else in my jacket (trousers too tight to consider anything but paper money or lift pass) however many a time I have found myself appearing over friendly with the lift pass readers
