Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Main thing is to try on several and get one which is the right shape for your head. No point in getting a really cheap one if it's uncomfortable. It's also worth taking your goggles when you try on new helmets to make sure that they work together. I don't think shops in France necessarily have a bigger range than the big specialist retailers like Snow & Rock, although if you're looking in a smaller shop in the UK they might have quite a limited range. With the current exchange rate I'd be surprised if anything was cheaper in France at the moment. I bought a new jacket on eBay from a UK dealer a few weeks back. Saw the same jacket in a shop in Les Arcs yesterday for €599. I paid £260 for it.

I would recommend R.E.D trace.

Assuming it's approved to an appropriate standard, fit is the most important thing.

I finally bought a helmet last year (when I took the kids away) having spent the last three seasons trying to get one to fit properly. The rental R.E.D lid at Stowe fit really well as did the Girio G10 I finally bought.

However if your head is a strange shape, mine is long, you might have to try on dozens and the one that fits snugly is NEVER going to be the one at £34.99 Sad

I was fortunate that I bought late season in the US for £65 equivalent as opposed to the last G10 that I tried on in Norway at £130 equivalent.

Happy hunting

My Missus bought a superb Burton RED Trace 'Black Denim' locally for £45 this week. It's dead funky.

I got my Cebe in TKMaxx for £20 in November. It fits great.

It's only for icy days as I really don't like the things.

I was glad of my cheapy from Lidl last wek at Sunshine when the Strawberry chair took a chunk out of my helmet and gave me a good jab in the kidneys! I hate to think what the mess would have been like if I hadnt been wearing it. I still dont know how it happened but luckily my little girl was ok.

We only bought helmets this time around to set a good example to our 14 year old who wasnt keen to replace her old one. Im glad we did now!

I am living out in Austria so don't get to Lidl too often... what a price!
I am interested what safety certificates it has and whether it states that it is for safety or is classed as a 'toy'?

I have got a Dainese - about €100 - very pleased with it!

Its not classed as a toy and therefore should adhere to any european safety standard. Im pretty sure it has some kind of reference to a standard on the helmet, when I could be bothered to unpack i will have a look and let you know. We kitted out the two youngest with the same Lidl helmets last year and I know loads of people who bought one and have been very happy with it. It even has adjustable vents, a real bargain in my opinion - you still look like a mushroom but pretty much everyone else in Banff did as well so who cares!

flangesax, My ski helmet from Lidl which cost £12.99 and is a class B helmet made in Germany confirming with the demands of Appendix II of the Europeon directive 89/686/EEC and technical norm class EN1077B and was certified by the officals responsible at the TuV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH Am Grauen Stein D-51105 Koln. It is a good fit and looks ok.

Tried on the ones at Lidl & although I found one to fit decided not to buy as it was soooooooooo uncomfortable compared to the others ( RED , GIRO & PRO TEC) that I had tried on a few days before. Did try on several as I thought it may have been a problem with one helmet....the adjuster mechanisum seemed to stick/press into my head & although didnt actually hurt, it wasnt nice...................I,m definatley not a 'brand' person & was hoping that the lidl one would be okay on my nut, but unfortunatley not.
No probs at all with other makes ( as mentioned).
Think the PRO TEC looks best but like the quick one hand vent adjustment on the GIRO G10 so will most likely go for that....shame its around £100 though Sad .

Agreed on all fronts.

As with most things we wear, we are all different both in our actual shape, and in our preferences for "snugness" etc.

I agree I was just lucky that the cheap one fits.
