Poster: A snowHead

hi everyone, i'm new to skiing and the forum and would like some advice about skiing jackets (women's) as there are so many types, brands, price ranges etc i don't know where to start! obviously i don't want to spend like £500 but i would rather get a decent jacket that will last a while rather than a cheap one that will need replacing soon and won't keep me warm. so does anyone have any recommendations? from having a bit of a look around, i was looking at the HH sunflake jacket which is about £140 but any other advice would be appreciated.
thanks!

leptine, welcome to snowheads I have looked at these and think they are a good jacket for the money. It is waterproof and breathable which are the two main things I would look for. It has lots of pockets and a powder skirt too. I think it's a good choice.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Might be a good idea to post where you actually live, then 's could advise. For example if you lived near me I would send you to Boundary mill outlet where they have an excellent Lowe Alpine concession. My wife got a Goretex XCR lightweight jacket at the weekend for £50, didn't need it but wasn't going to leave it there at this price, RRP over £200.
BTW it's skier

leptine, welcome to Snowheads!
I've always been a big fan of Helly Hansen gear ever since I spent 3 months in it in the Antarctic. If it is good enough for the polar research organisations, you can be sure it is good enough for skiing. Their quality runs throughout their range, so as long as you get the right spec for your needs, you can't really go wrong. The Sunflake is a good option if you feel the cold, with its insulation, but if you are mainly a spring skier you might find it a little warm at times although the vents do allow some adjustment.
Plus, if you're not bothered to get this year's models (and why should you be?), then there are some bargains to be had, e.g. http://www.wildday.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?id=5707
