There were several surprises on the podiums in the FIS Alpine World Cup events this weekend over in the US. Tessa Worley of France got her first World Cup podium and win in the Aspen giant slalom on Saturday. Tanja Poutiainen (Finland) and Elisabeth Goergl (Austria) came second and third, respectively. The results from the men’s Alpine Ski World Cup season-opening downhill at Lake Louise were also surprising. Peter Fill of Italy won - his first career win. Second place went to Carlo Janka (Switzerland), his first World Cup podium, and third place went to Hans Olsson (Sweden), also his first podium. ...In the men’s super G today, Hermann Maier (Austria) won with half a second on the rest of the field. John Kucera (Canada) and Didier Cuche (Switzerland) came second and third, respectively.
In the ladies slalom, Sarka Zahrobska (Czech Republic) came first, with Nicole Hosp (Austria) and Tanja Poutiainen (Finalnd), coming second and third, respectively.
