 Poster: A snowHead
|
In addition to my previous post. Austria is the other place I am considering for my ski season.
St.Anton and Kitzbuhel seems to be the favorites. I am looking for a balance betwen chilling out/appreciating my sorroundings and partying/godd cafes & restraunts and mixing with a good range of people (not to young).
I have heard Kitz would be more suitable but am unsure as i have never been to either.
Plus can anyone help with accomodation in Kitzbuhel....have tried looking and not found much. I am looking for a 1bed apartment/studio flat.
I would appreaciate your opinions on the above or other recommendations
PS I am a beginner at skiing

snowheads4life, have a look at Ski Amade, 45 mins from Salzburg airport. St Anton is very steep for a beginner so may not be much fun.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Kitzbuhel and St anton couldn't be more different. St. Anton is far superior for skiing and all other things are about equal. Kitzbuhel is low, doesn't get enough snow and the terrain is flat. It is hard to find long term accom in st. a but there are many villages around kitz such as st johan.

If you're doing a season then St Anton should be fine as you should master the steeps relativley quickly with that intensity os skiing where as you may get bored with the skiing in a smaller lower shallower resort over an entire season.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

snowheads4life, If you're doing a season, then probably St Anton edges it as it has a far superior snow record. You'll also be hard pushed to find somewhere that matches the apres of St Anton.

If you are a beginner, especially a timid one, then I do not think StA is the place for you. Discussion on that going on in http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=45431
NB: Others have different views.
If you want to the Arlberg, and can afford it, you are likely to have a better time skiing at Lech. As for aprez, it depends on what floats your boat. If you want to see a bunch of mid-aged Brits, wearing yellow ski pants and white cotton tops, waving their arms around to Euro-Trash, then St Anton is definitely the go!

I thought St Anton prices for food and drink on the mountain where quite expensive. Are these normal european prices or is Alberg an expensive region. ?

stevev, Cheaper than France but possibly slightly more expensive than rest of Austria??? Worth the extra if it is more expensive though. More expensive for rooms as there is very high demand for them.

I thought rooms were ok, at least last weekend they were. I booked into a pension last minute, right off the main high street (behind north face shop) only 50eu per night for friday saturday. I found a load of cheaper ones in St Jakob but that meant a ski bus trip in the mornings.
