Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all, we are a family of 4, 2 teens and 2 adults. Looking to ski in Eastern Europe this year because of budget constraints. My kids grew up in Colorado on skiis and are very good skiiers. Hence my post looking for advanced skiing in E Europe. I know we would have more luck in France, Austria etc but just don't have the budget. Anyone have any recommendations for us? I know nothing about skiing in this area. Many thanks.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My guess is your main problem won't be difficulty but variation. When I looked a couple of times I didn't know if I'd be able to stay in such a "small" place for a week.

I have no knowledge of Eastern Europe skiing. However am told the Tatras that are about an hour from Krakow can be good and excellent value. Will need to DIY but loads of flights and transport is cheap in Poland. Recently did a city break to Krakow and our Auswitz tour guide waxed lyrical about the mountains. I have seen articles online about the Czech side too.
Alternatively look at the TOs Sunweb or Snowtrex.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Probably need to define "advanced" a bit more. Steep groomers? Back country?

All true, but I'd be wary to recommend the Polish Tatra's to an advanced skiier. Personally I like going there, but we are most definitely more towards the 'casual' end of the spectrum than advanced and I'd be worried there isn't enough to keep advanced skiiers happy for long (on the slopes...plenty to do off them)!

Serbia might be an option. Its cheap as chips and my friend goes every year now because of budget. He's an advanced/ expert skier and loves the place. Do some research though as I don't know much more.
There's also Bansko which fits the bill too!
