Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

OK, I'm looking for a week or less break skiing...anywhere!

I want cheap, good for intermediates, good snow record and that's pretty much it.

Does anyone know of any of hand?

If not is it better to book flights, hotels, transfers etc. individually or as a package? Also are the lesser known resorts better?

Snow-Queen, any particular time preferred or are you as flexible on that as you are on the other things ? I ask because if you can go for a late availability deal then you can be sure there is snow in your chosen resort and a package deal is easiest to arrange in a hurry and will be competitively priced to sell.

If you can plan well ahead, then you might get a cheap flight/train deal and you can arrange the rest independently and you will certainly beat a Tour Ops brochure price, but maybe not a late availability discount.

Snow-Queen, it really does depend on when you can go, the lesser known resorts are usually less well known because they are smaller and so have less skiable areas, some of the best deals last year came as late availability deals from the big companies, Inghams were discounting up to 50% off last minute deals in some swiss resorts last year for example

Snow-Queen, If you can handle the 5hr. transfer, Livigno's a good intermediate place for a week and very snowsure. It's not as downmarket as 'some' would have you belive ans there are some serious discounts offered - 132 s/c inc flts & transfers - but sort your own pass and ski board hire. It's also tax free so if you're looking to buy the prices are about 20% better than UK.
foods good and cheap, booze & fags are a stupid price, the craique is superb.

Hi Snow-Queen, you may see I have just posted my trip to LOFER --I plan to go there on the 11th January (early morning) as from Stansted the flights are quite cheap --returning on 14th (evening)--so one could have 4 days skiing. I was there 2 years ago for a similar short break--and it was brilliant--the hotel is right up on the mountain--ski in -ski out--right by the lift system--half board is 53 euros per person--single rooms available at no extra cost----My grown up son came with me last time--but can't commit to come now--I am an intermediate (though skied 30 years!)--have friends who ski--but no-one can come on those dates --so I may go alone! If you want to join --let me know! Little Angel

Hi Snow-Queen. Your question's already been discussed. Flick through this branch and the "Piste" branch, or use the search function under the userfacilities at top left of this page.

The trick to cheapie deals is to first have a reasonable idea of which resorts are right for your requirements. Again, search this site, or pick up a copy of "Where to Ski and Snowboard", or check this out. In my opinion, for intermediates it doesn't really matter where, so long as the snow's reasonably good when you go.

Once you've a rough idea of which resorts are best, then find out whether the snow's any good when you want to go (again, have a look on this site, or here ).

Then start hunting online for the best priced deal.

"Price" (or, rather, "cheapness") is primarily a function of the cost of your flight/transfer/accomodation, rather than what it costs in resort to buy a lift ticket/beer, so don't be put off if someone suggests an "expensive" resort (e.g. I've always found just as good, if not cheaper, deals for Courchevel 1850 as for the "cheaper" Courchevel 1650 or La Pratz on the same date). Savings on the flight/transfer/accomodation will justify any spendature required in resort.

Good luck!

Snow-Queen, just how "friendly" do you want to be?
There is a thriving Escort business in most big cities - just a companion to take to dinner, a party, or a show.
So, why not the same for skiing. You would go for free. Your chores would be just company on the slopes and in the evening, but no hanky-panky expected (unless you wished to negitiate other terms). wink

Would you like to be our first recruit?
I think you will find DGOrf PMing you almost immediately.

jonpim--what a brilliant idea!--I shall follow this thread--"SnowHeads Ski companions"--

All being well--if I survive a week in Wengen this month with the Skiclub--then I hope to be in Megeve in late March--(my most extravagant year so far--but then "I'm worthi t!!")---I shall be there with friends--but if anyone needs a skicompanion in the area--do let me know--I volunteer too!
