Right, so who's going to do this with me? Sondhofen, 2nd - 6th March. According to BASI website currently no one booked on this. I've not yet booked, but when i do want to be able to book my flights before the prices are sky high!
skimottaret? rob@rar? anyone?

rob@rar, Germany, fly to Munich I think.
jbob, yes it's supposed to be physically tough but spoken with a few people who've done it and they said it's doable, and like you also said very rewarding.

Right, I'm all booked up! First person to book on the course so no chance of booking accommodation or flights yet which is very frustrating. So come on Wayne, get you and your mates booked on!

Am picking him up in zurich on Fri - so will speak to him them. Got Teach and O Piste next week (big stress at the mo) so will sort it out when I get back. Will deff do it though if these 2 go OK
Should be fun. Do you know what the minimum number is needed to run

Wayne, they said 6. They also said they've cancelled one in Zermatt this autumn as not enough people on it, but in previous years they've been full. I'm hoping as there are only 2 course run per season it will fill up, particularly with people like you who are doing courses in Zermatt.
Good luck with the off piste, it's pretty straightforward as long as you're ok on map reading and ski safely. I've not done the Teach yet so be good to hear how you get on.

Wayne, by the sound of it you'll be fine on the teach. I'm a bit nervous about it, mainly as my experience is teaching beginners / intermediates and i've heard the teach is more about analysing and developing the skiing of your peers. So going on a lot of training courses yourself and working on your own skiing is probably as useful as lots of teaching experience, assuming as a grade 3 you've mainly been teaching lower end skiers.

Been in basi for 15 years and have done 3 courses -training in 94, assess in 95 and ISIA tech this year so....OMG, not really sure what grade I am - they keep changeing it

Wayne, that's quite a big gap, have you been teaching full time since then? If so you may have more experience than the trainer, ha ha! What made you decide to start doing courses again after a big gap?

Basically was just happy to continue along and keep on doing the work but it's all changing, because within the next 2 years you will need to have ISIA to teach anywhere in Europe (cept on a dry slope or the like).
Trainers ha ha no way. Have skied with some trainers, they make me look like a 2nd weeker.
But must admit to being brill at falling face first into powder - took me ages to get that right

i've just checked this out, apparently not true. Could be some confusion with ISIA trying to introduce a higher qualification comparable to the Euro Group's top level?

beanie1, sorry for the hijack... I think he may be referring to the pyramid 3 tier scheme as you say. I did hear however that ISIA will be sufficient for teaching in ski schools in any ISIA member country. The French and Austrians are threatening to pull out of ISIA if that is implemented..

Don’t you mean Italy? It’s already possible to teach in Austria with well less than ISIA.

I can’t see it happening, the Eurogroup is so much better run that ISIA, they're pretty powerful.

Ha Ha - thats the one I messed up. The Off Piste was great fun though and not too much of a problem.
Basic problem with the teach is that I wasn't good enough. Bex ( the trainer ) was brill.
I did learn loads from the others on the course. But not enough to advise anyone.
I am doing some training with some Italian trainers ( the criteria is about the same) and then will have another go when they think I'm ready.
Been teaching for ages (passed 1st basi in 94) but for the teach course my level was not high enough. No-one elses fault so will just get more training.

Wayne, bad luck. I'm guessing from what you said above that it was analysis of your contempories on the course? Which goes with what i've been told about high end ski courses being better preparation for this course than teaching.

Always done a lot of evening video feedback sessions with ski schools such as Snoworks. These sessions provide an opportunity to examine your own skiing and everyone else's in your group, discussing what you see. Extremely useful for developing a "good eye", but can be a depressing experience when you see how bad your skiing is! I try to sit in on as many video feedback sessions as I can now, even if I've not been videoed.

I've read this thread with interest as I would like to gain experience in this area. However, when I look at the BASI web site it says
BASI wrote: |
If you are considering attending a BASI Adaptive course it is essential that you already have acquired sufficient knowledge and experience of working with skiers with disabilities before applying. |
I would have thought that, working with skiers with disabilities, it would be sensible to have some idea about what to do before you go out on the slope with them. Where can you pick up such experience? I presume with ski schools who specialise in these activities. Any suggestions where?
