Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Arabba with car - other Dolomite resorts

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have been to Arabba twice before. This time we will be with a car. Any advice on other resorts in the DolomitiSuperski not connected by lifts area to try ? Obvously Cortina is one - any others ? Try and describe the good bits or best reasons to try.

We will ski most things so don't worry about difficulty.

Cheers in advance

Cinque Torre (think I've spelt that right Blush) stands out as a must try, if only for the single person chairlift. Nice quiet runs, no resort as such, but watch out for the day trippers with tour operators.

We loved the cruisy runs back down to the coach car park there, and my gf loved the icy run over the other side after getting to the top of the single person chairlift. Best reason is the scenery, it really is stunning and we found lots of the pristine untouched white stuff.

dsoutar, this year I want to try Cortina (Cinque Torri & Tofana for the scenery), Kronplatz (for the lift system), Civetta (for the views of Civetta and Pelmo) & the Marmolada ('cos it's the highest peak), might try the 1st World War ski tour which encompasses some of these as well as the Hidden Valley of Armentarola (spellbinding & grill at Rifugio Scotoni).

Agree with the Cinque torri recommendation, but the drops down to the car park are seriously steep. Magnificent scenery, and if you get there early you will have the place to yourself.

Wonderful area.

They weren't when I was there Smile

One way down is a blue piste - admittedly fairly steep for a blue, the other is a fairly average red run.

If you ski the Cinque Torri don't miss the cable car just up the road at the Falzarego Pass. I'll be staying at the restaurant / Refuge Lagazuoi at the top of cable car one night in early March.

This is the one you need to get to ski the Hidden Valley.

There are quite a few impressive cablecar rides across the region that soar above the pinnacles, cliffs and towers that characterise these mountains: Falzarego/Lagazuoi, Sasso Pordoi, Malga Ciapela/Marmolada, Tofana/Ra Valles

Seriously steep ??

Woo-hoo !!! The words I love to hear. Also good there is an alternative for the missus & girls

Thanks for all the info. It's a beautiful area but after you've done the Sella Ronda and it's off-shoots a couple of times it's nice to try something new.

dsoutar, 'seriously steep' would be the run down the Forcella Pordoi off the Sass Pordoi cablecar:

Be scared! The only way down for the 'ladies' would be the cablecar though! wink

These guys tried some seriously steep off-piste lines in the Marmolada and Pordoi areas, looks like they impressed the ladies too! Cool :

Yeah, the Marmolada isn't too bad but some of the stuff off the Pordoi (or the entire Sella massive) is a bit too hairy for me, like the Holzer for example. Some of these are nice too http://www.guidestarmountain.com/guidestarmountain/english/ski/legendary.htm and there's loads of good stuff in the Freeride in Dolomiti book by Francesco Tremolada.

dsoutar, yeah, I think I'd be taking the easy way down too! You need to recognise your limits.

That list, there's loads of extreme lines in the Dolomites that I hadn't heard of before, this area is too often mistakenly dismissed as lacking challenge!

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

But I really have no idea where he got the "seriously steep" from, unless he is talking about some off-piste ruote down.

The red (like quite a few in the region) looks quite steep until you are on it, but is no harder once on it than most of the reds in the region.

The blue is probably borderline between blue/red, but still hardly classes as "seriously steep".
