Poster: A snowHead
|
I bought new boots at the end of last season. Tried them on in the shop in Kitzbühel in March, then bought them online a month later for half the price. Bargain!
However, since they were bought online they've not been 'fitted' as such. Can I transfer the footbed insoles from my old boots or are these things 'boot-specific'? I seem to remember they were hideously expensive...
At the moment the boots feel fine around the foot when I try them on, but obviously I haven't skied in them yet. They feel rather tight around my calves, but that might just be my dodgy legs...
Any advice...?

Yes. You can transfer them.
You could also loosen the top two clips a bit if you liked.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Phew! Didn't fancy the additional expense of buying more of them things. I hope they don't make my new boots whiff too much...

Yes you can transfer, no problems....
one thing to consider is how old the footbeds, they will not have changed, but it's possible your feet have !!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

queen bodecia, shouldn't be a problem, when you put them in make sure that they fit round the shape of the toe box of the boot well and they are not too tight in the liner, footbeds fitting too tightly in the lienr will cause them to work against your foot and can cause problems

Popped into Two Seasons whilst i was in town today. Spoke to a chap there who said I can bring my new boots in and they 'heat' fit them for me and sell moulded footbeds too. Total cost around £40-£50. Can't afford it at the moment but might be able to in the New Year. Looks like a good plan following advice from people on here. Thanks a lot all...

queen bodecia, Get some one to look at the calf problem, if this isn't addressed any skiing or boot will be uncomfortable.

queen bodecia, stay away from Two Seasons Nottm - they haven't a clue! They sold boots to my neighbour last weekend with a 35mm shell gap! Either go to CEM in Bicester or second choice would be to go & see Julian at EB's at Castleford.

When I bought my boots (Head 8. they were also tight around the calves, the chap fitting them placed something in the boots which seemed to lift my goot up in them and so they then fastened lower down around a thinnner part of my calf. However, since I've lost a lot of weight I wonder could this affect the fit of the boots? - I've already moved the macro adjuster on the top buckles, and am debating whether to move the bukle to the second position by unscrewing it and moving to the new hole location, but this seems a larger jump for me to think about doing. Will I do any harm if I fiddle?

The calf problem is that mine are enormous! Snigger! Plus I suffer from aching and numbness in my legs anyway. I'm going to be in some pain whatever I do, I'm just aiming for a bit of support if possible...
Thanks for the tip re: Two Seasons in Nottingham. They seemed friendly enough today but I guess that's no measure of how good they are. Sadly Bicester and Castleford are a bit too far away, is there not anywhere else nearer...?

Unfortunately not. If you know you've got problems that are outside of the norm they you really ought to bite the bullet & go see a pucka specialist like CEM. For example, CEM has recently invested in a new machine specifically to do controlled & precise stretching of the calf area in women's boots which could be what you'll need.
The time/cost involved in getting it right is really very little compared to the overall cost of your skiing.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Sadly I just don't have the money for something like that. I only ski for one week each year anyway, plus it's likely I have fibromyalgia so even the best boots in the world aren't going to help much there...
I guess my other option is waiting until I'm in resort, although on changeover day the shops are likely to be mad busy. Plus it might work out even more expensive. What a conundrum...
In the old days I had two jobs so I could afford more, but I'm too much of an invalid for that now...

queen bodecia, if he is selling you a moulded footbed and heating the shell for 40-50 i am not sure what footbed they are using the calf is the major issue deal with that
