Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which of our resident boarders waxes his own then? The shop I used to use has now closed down and I have nobody really local. Is it easy?

It's easy enough, I've done skis and boards, if you go to the TOKO website they have some pdf files you can download or webpages you can view that tell you how to do it Toko website

I do as well.... but those hard to reach places on my back are a real pain.... and don't talk to me about the spots when it starts to grow back.... Laughing

I always get mine done in resort... normally cheap as chips... don't really see much point in doing it in the UK unless your a regular snowdome-r?

Yep I do - it's pretty easy really. Most of the mags will likely have guides on how to do it with their equipment issues (they usually do any how). Grab one and away you go!

Not ever done it before as don't have the space but may have a go this year. I do use the rub on waxes every few hours when in the resort.

I tend to wax when i get home from each trip, so that it is sorted and ready to go whenever the next one is. I've heard that it stops the base drying out but I'm not sure how true this is.

Easy to do and quite fun in a boys' DIY kind of way.

If I have time in the resort, I'll get it done there as it is pretty cheap and saves a job - but that's only if i'm feeeling really lazy

who did you use in London? (and where do you live?, if that's not too intrusive!)

I live in Chadwell Heath, and there used to be a nice little boardshop in Harold Wood in Essex which was bout 20 minutes drive. Shut down now, they used to do a cracking storage wax for the summer ready for following season. Like Dan I don't really have the room to wax my deck at the moment but I think I'll start soonish. Talking to Simon, the waxing is easy but the edging is the hard bit.

On the subject, The current bible issue of Snowboard UK has advertised some wax alternative dubbed liquid Teflon. Apparantly it is close to the teflon composite and can be applied simply to the base of the snowboard.

I usually wax my own board which can be quite a nice reflective thing to do after a day's riding (I wrote a how-to tuning guide for my blog earlier this year).

BTW I find edging easy with a purpose made tool and keep it in my backpack on icy days.

The gear mentioned in Snowboard UK is called Zardoz, the guy that wrote the article said it makes your board go like poo-poo off a shovel. I gotta get me some Very Happy
As for waxing, I used to use the same shop as Phil but I think I'll get it done in resort this time. No other option really.

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
I either wax my board myself or take it to a shop (just add water in Soton) - depends on how lazy I am.

I used Zardoz last season - applied it every morning before going out - you can tell the difference. It only takes about 3 mins to apply with the foam applicator it comes with.

Simon (Mr T), went a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty poor.
Only a few equipment suppliers - the rest were trying to sell holidays or give PR for resorts.

Also I think most of the shops were focussed around selling the 'Sticks of Shame'. Wink

I think we only stayed for about an hour.

Certainly not worth the entrance fee - in my opinion.

Maybe it will be bigger this year - let us know.

For those of you in Essex, I have heard good things about Wet&Dry Boardsports at Sadlers hall farm on the A13.
I use them for Windsurfing kit but mates have used them for board prep and Jamie seems to know what hes doing.
I tend to get them waxed overnight in resort, use a rub on wax as well during the day, but I do my own edges wink
Bought an edging toll from Oki/oko ? last year and it is superb

safeladz, if you're riding all day, every day on hard piste . . . twice a week is best and take a teflon pad for in-between. If you're working and have limited time on snow, once a week is more than enough. If you're just playing in the pipe and park don't bother you'll appreciate the extra control an unwaxed board will give you while you're learning new tricks. If you're playing on the rails, wax every day.
