Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My apologies for having let this go for so long without an answer, sb.

But I would have thought that the ski boots and the lower leg muscular activity used in skiing would be the most significant elements in promoting venous and lymphatic drainage,

Are the ski boots (any ski boots) well enough fitted to do that? I really don't see how they could provide graduated pressure.

and that the important thing to do would be to get legs up when resting at lunch time and not stand around in bars at the end of the day and get straight into proper class 1 or class 2 compression hosiery then...

Undisputed.

I suspect those would be too sweaty and uncomfortable during exercise.

Those, perhaps.

Joe Friel's summary of compression sox at Kona Ironman, references at bottom (I have not looked at the references).

I could get away with 3 pairs for a week's skiing..

you could easily get away with 2 - things dry quickly in the dry mountain air. I have a pair from Decathlon which are fine, but I had to hunt all through the display to find any thin ones, because I've no room for thick socks in my boots. My daughter, every time we stop for a break or she has to wait for me to catch up, lies on the snow and props her feet up on her skis. I'm sure it's great for her legs, but personally I find it too much of a mission to get up again, so I only do the same if having to wait ages. It's a good habit.

I bought the most expensive technical socks from Mountain Warehouse in the end. They seem to have a small amount of compression but I'll probably have to do boots and socks off, compression socks on and feet up twice a day to keep things flowing...

Still haven't sorted getting my boots heat-moulded and footbeds fitted so that's the next step...

Thanks all...

Socks, how much difference do they make?

Isn't the answer to that it depends on whether you are wearing sandals?
