Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mount Etna

This snow report just in from Europe's only live volcano for skiers ... "where only two ski lifts survived the 2002 eruption": from AGI Online.

Any first-hand reports from Etna always very welcome!

I've skied on Etna for half a day, several years ago when the gondola was still operating (but after the cable car had been destroyed). I think that 1 metre of snow is only barely sufficient to ski on because the underlying terrain is composed entirely of jagged rocks. It's an amazing place to ski - on a clear day you can see the sea, and at the same time you have a plume of gas and steam constantly rising from the summit.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I think Pliny the Younger had the best opinion about Etna, "you can go and look if you want to Dad but boogered if I'm going anywhere near it!"

Masque, Etna's a wonderful place - you can get very close to an eruption in relative safety (which is a humbling sight), and there is a terrific local culture, cuisine and history. There's even the occasionaly chance to get some skiing in - what more could you ask for?!

There are a few webcams (snowcams or eruptioncams?) around Etna: http://www.etnatrekking.com/webcam/webcam.asp and http://www.ct.ingv.it/UfMoni/
