Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiers asked to boycott Utah resorts to punish Mormon church

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Utah's tourism industry is being targeted for a boycott by bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking to punish the Mormon church for its aggressive promotion of California's ban on gay marriage. There could be a heavy price to pay for Utah's ski resorts, as skiing brings millions of dollars a year into the state....Aravosis, the editor of a popular political blog, which has about 900,000 unique monthly visitors, has called for skiers to choose any state but Utah for their skiing holidays. Other bloggers and readers have responded to his call.

Salt Lake City is the world headquarters for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has about 62 percent of Utah residents as members.

Good luck to them. Religious people should be free to do whatever they want within their churches, temples, whatever.
But once they leave the churches and start telling everyone else what to do, they're overstepping the mark IMHO.

Spot on. Each to their own and all that. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but once someone starts trying to impose that opinion on others, that's when it's not on.

But why should the ski industry be targeted? Does the Mormon church run the ski resorts? Does it pocket the income? (Genuine questions.)

That’s was religions do. In fact that’s all they. That’s what they are there for

I have never been to a church (of any type) but I would imagine there is little point telling the people inside what to do, they are probably already playing by the "rules".

So you have a problem with religious people telling others what to do, but don't have a problem with gay rights activists telling you to boycott a ski area? Surely if one is wrong, then so is the other.

Surely there's a huge difference here? It's not like the bloggers/gay rights activists are going around campaigning for a law to ban people from skiing in Utah. They're just asking that those who disagree with the position the Mormon church has taken on Prop 8 may want to consider going to resorts outside of Utah this season...

Religious people and gay rights people can tell me how I should live my life until they are blue in the face, as long as I have the choice to completely ignore what they're saying!! As soon as they cross the line and start legislating, taking away my choice to ignore them, I think it's fair enough to criticise that...

Also, to put it bluntly, surely it's a bit hypocritical for the Mormon church to be campaigning for the sanctity of marriage Laughing

Wow, sorry! Only my second post here, never thought it would be a rant about the Mormon church!!! Embarassed How random!!

There is a big difference between campaigning for equality and campaigning for/promoting legislative discrimination. I'm to tired to write any kind of eloquent argument, so I'll just shut up and go to bed! Why am I on snowheads at 2am arguing about the Mormon Church anyway? Puzzled Puzzled

Ridiculous!
Why would i want to let the Gay community decide where I ski...
And If I wanted to marry another bloke, I'd just have to go somewhere else and do it.
There are too many real problems in the world to worry about!

given the original topic, surely the 'bloggers and activists' should be targeting California, as _that_ is the state that recenly overturned the gay marriage rules.
Utah is a different state.....
Maybe they should target the movie industry, or the bodybuilding industry, both of which have slightly closer links to the actor (sorry, "The Governator") of that fair state....
as it happens, I'm going to Utah for Christmas.... fingers crossed....

Of course you could say that all religions are, by definition, if not ridiculous then at the very least illogical.
It turns out that Mormonism isn't even the most ridiculous religion in SLC:
