Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"I don't need fitting, i never have. I have normal feet and have tried every boot you can imagine. I'm a GUIDE/MONITOR."

Ok, cool. Here's the box and a tiny discount. Bye.

They now have grown feet shaped like average ski boots?

The ESF only accepts people with perfect feet?

Lizzard, I believe the Academie Francaise keeps a model of pair of perfect French feet. Anyone deviating by more than 4% is not allowed to join the ESF. Those with feet shaped according to other countries' standards are allowed to instruct children in groups of 20 or more.

stoatsbrother, sounds more than reasonable to me. Presumably my application for nationality will have to include details of foot dimension and photographs of the relevant parts.

Got custom fit on a pair of Salomon Mission 10 ski boots about 8 months ago.
Last 2 outings @ the sno-dome, the right boot has been pressing on my big toe nail right @ the cormer.
The boots seemed fine and well skiing during the summer but when i took my sock off my toe was bright red.
During the session my toes on the right foot went cold.
Went to the shop after the session and the fitter wants to streach the boot? is this normal practice?
Thanks.

Pretty much standard, boot fitters will squeeze you into boots that are far too small on the basis that they will "pack out". It is a bit like tailors saying that trousers will "ride up with wear". This generates lots of repeat business as they spend ages stretching a size 26 boot to size 27. Of course this weakens the boot which will fail early and you are back for a new fitting. Rinse and repeat.

oops nearly forgot the ob.smiley Laughing

kev360, is too obvious too check that you have trimmed said toenail as short as possible without taking any skin off? Yes, stretching does sound reasonable - saves you the cost of new boots dun'it?

kev360, try clipping the top two clips of your boot first, then flex the boot a few times, then clip the front two clips, this way your foot will settle into the back fo the boot, if that doesn't work, take the lienr out put your foot in the shell see how much space there is behind your heel with your toe lightly brushing the front

it is more likely that the shape of the toe box doesn't quite match your foot or that you are not doing them up correctly than that they are too small for you

So how many folks are there with 'stock feet' Do you specialist boot guys get many people that can walk in boots on feet, standard heat shrink liners and a maybe an off the shelf footbed and walk out again perfectly fitted, or if not do you think its because in your line of work you only get to see the problem cases.

Thanks CEM. The boots are definitly not to small for me. When i put my foot in without the liner there is the "industry standard" 10mm-20mm gap.
When my leg position is correct there is plenty of room @ the toe box.
Believe it or not, the boots up until saturday have been comfortable as far as comfort goes in ski boots.
I will try the fine tuning the clip adjustment. I just put them on and never gave any consideration to the fit on saturday.
I think some lazy technique might also be part of the route cause.
When i went into the shop on saturday after skiing, the boot fitter had a profile of my feet and the only significant change is a calous on my right big toe. Work boots have been rubbing i suspect?
But surely a small calous can't play havock with my boot fit?
I just don't want to stretch the boots if it's unnecessary. That'll be my last resort.
And my toe nails are cut short flowa, thanks any way LOL. Laughing

Megamum, Much to my surprise, given the abuse my feet have taken over the years I ended up being a 'stock fit' with zero adjustments being made to the boots out of the box at a boot clinic a couple of years ago apart from some superfeets. Now whether I would have found the right box without the ministrations of the bootfitting gurus is an entirely different question.

kev360, Blush personal experience. Luckily there weren't any cameras around last Saturday as I, perched high atop CEM's fitting chair, shamefully tried to trim mine with enormous shears Shocked in the middle of the snow show Embarassed

I have some slightly over comfy Salomon Xwave8 boots which I guess makes them 5ish years old, on max tightness they are wearable for fast/tricky stuff now and although I frequently enjoy the lack of foot pain, constriction or coldness I do wonder if I need a new boot or liner? I ski everyday in season, as I suspect that is relevant info!

SMALLZOOKEEPER, What kind of fit are they looking for? Comfort, recreational fit?
If that is the case, then I'm sure the customer THINKS they have a proper fitting boot, when, in fact, its spacious.

I fit the description of Megamum, when it comes to the Krypton Storm. It just fits my foot shape and calf muscle/size. However, when I got new boots this year, the first thing I did was contact my boot fitter and find out when he'd have his shop ready for me to visit him.
Even with an "out of the box" fit, there is some appreciated time spent with a proper boot fitter to get new boots dialed in. A girl's gotta have proper alignment, eh CEM ?

*His shop sold elan/Dalbello when I got my first Kryptons, but he no longer carries them. He understands why I have Krypton loyalty at this point as well as loyalty to him as a boot fitter.
