Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

bergamo to livigno....best way to get there ??

 Poster: A snowHead

hi all,
after racking my head the last few weeks as to where we should go this season,i eventually decided on livigno as it's that bit cheaper and has good reviews,
however 4 of us are flyin into bergamo on sat 21st feb (carnival week supposedly) flight arrives at 11:20am and it says there is a bus service (mtb) that leaves at 11:30am,does this bus wait for the passengers off the plane should i bother booking my tickets for it or not ? the next one is not untill 9pm so didnt fancy hanging around till then.....
was thinking about renting a car also, how safe is this though with all the snow and windy mountains and is it quicker...??

if anyone knows anything about best way to get there or suggestions/hints/tips/info/personal experiences, anything at all it would be greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance guys Very Happy Very Happy

A little off topic, but if u decide to drive , your lift pass in Livigno covers u for one days ski in St Moritz, if u want to use the car for a day skiing in Switz...

http://www.parkchaletvillage.com/it/webcam.htm

We bused it up, approx normanally 4hrs 30 in dry conditions. Road good until... When you get near to Livingo, there's a high pass you drive over , if it is snowing, the pass will be chaotic with people putting on snow chains etc. It took us over an hour to cover the the last 10km to livingo.

I'm not certain whether chains are obligitory or not.

If was me I'd drive, quicker and cheaper than bus. Google the name of the pass, I think it's passo Foc... or something like that and put the phone number of the pass in your phone and check the conditions as you set off from Airport.

If there is snow forecast for your journey, you can buy chains in Supermarkets or hire em from car hire co.

PS we've been three times to Livigno and can reccomend it, excelllent, enuf skiing for a week and duty free

yes definately hire.....mt bus will not wait if you are late and when you work out the cost there and back for 4 people on the bus hiring a car can be cheaper and it is more convenient. the roads are usually fine as its the main route in for the buses. also you are arriving at a good time so should get to livvy around 4 before the temperatures really drop and the roads start to freeze...... snow chains are obligatory but in 6 years of driving in motorhomes and cars we have never had to use them. you generally dont tend to hit snow until bormio anyway so its not far from livvy. we will be there throughout february in the motorhome and we have family flying out to bergamo and hiring a car for half term week.....the best route to take is milan - lecco -colico - sondrio - tirano - bormio - passo foscagno - livigno......be wary if using a sat nav as on some if you type in bergamo - livigno it takes you through st moritz and you have a tunnel to negotiate and its longer....best type in bergamo - sondrio then sondrio - livigno........the snow is falling already.....i am so excited!!!

Lechbob, I too have the same opinion of Livigno as a resort!

Enquire to see if the bus will wait. May be much cheaper for you! What about return times? If times do not suit hire a car or even a taxi might suit! Check out Livigno website for local taxi firms, no doubt there will be a taxi taking punters to Bergamo on the arrival day and will be glad of a return fare!
