Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Poles

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I always tend to beg/borrow/steal poles, so I thought it was about time I actually bought some. Having looked around the U.K. market there seems to be booger all available, in terms of choice, anyway.

My first general question is this: Do most of you find poles are much of a muchness, and any old pole will do, whether it is carbon or one of those grotty, Scott hire poles?

More specifically, I am after something with a low swing weight but plenty of strength for planting on steeps, etc. However, I don't want carbon and I don't want anything that, if it gets stolen from my skis outside the Mooserwirt, I will have to sell a kidney to replace.

Any recommendations? Faves? Things to avoid?!

Thanks all.

Try TK MAXX recently picked up carbon Leki poles for €13.00 yes that thirteen. Scott tend to do really nice aluminium ones relatively cheaply about £20 should get you a reasonable pair or €30 in resort

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

just handle them i say.

put your gloves on and hold the handle - it is feels comfy in your palm - they're for you.

went to ski show the other day and my partner tried them all and picked out a carbon fibre K2 set - they look sorta grunge too.

only prob with carbon fibre poles is that the lovely coating chips and makes em look bad and if you put a ski over them and slide it across - the whole coating will come off like hard nail varnish being scraped off.
