It depends on the service I suppose. Generally if we have had good service we tip €10 each (for each client not each chalet host). There was one ocassion when the hosts were so bad we didn't tip at all. The cooking was awful (often burnt, cold plates etc) and they spent most of their time skiing instead of cleaning the chalet and preparing decent meals. They also wouldn't let us have a glass of wine before the meal unless we complained (which we did).
We are going with ski Total for the third time next year and so far have rated them highly. Hope you have a good time !

When my guests asked, I always used to recommend a standard 12.5%, as you would i any other environment. Never got it though

Too long since I was in a chalet, sorry. However on a package holiday - 12.5% of what? I think many people don't tip at all on those - though they should.
But hitching a ride on this thread: does anyone know what % taxi drivers actually expect (on top of the price they quote in an email) to shuttle you to the resort from the airport? Current relevance is Treviso to Arabba for 4 people. I did it before and gave 10% but I don't know if I needed to.

globalbagtag.com, I always find it's appreciated if you contact the chalet staff before arrival, to ask if there is anything they'd like bringing over. This is usually cheese! Cheddar, Extra Mature...... magazines are popular too (you can leave the mags you buy in the airport on the way out). The benefit of this is you are giving them a little token on arrival which already endears you to the staff and always goes down well. On leaving, the 10 euros pp rule seems about right, but if the service is rubbish, don't tip

Personally, I think cow tipping is bad enough but to creep up on some poor lad/laydee first thing in the morning as they are staring into space pushing some congealed eggs round a saucepan as they try to remember what they did the night before is a step too far....seasonnaires have rights too!
