Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bootfitters in Kent?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've finally decided to bite the bullet and buy some boots of my own (and likely skis...but that will probably wait for the moment..).

I'm based in Canterbury, Kent, and would obviously like not to have to travel too far to find a decent bootfitter. We do have Captains Cabin ski shop nearby, and they give this advice about boots - http://www.captainscabin.com/shop/section.php?xSec=158.

Does this sound reasonable? I've heard people talk about getting boots moulded to fit - is this worth the extra cost, and is there anywhere in particular to go for this?

I ski on average 2-3 times a season, and while I've not had huge problems with uncomfy boots when hiring, they've never been super comfy.

Thanks,
Ed

Im surprised you havent had a reply to your post yet. I bought a pair of boots for my daughter last year from Captains Cabin. Spent about two hours in the process and the boots were moulded to fit. So I can say that they put the care and attention into the fitting. My advice would be to always choose a local shop as it will be easy to rectify any problems. Visit the shop and ask your questions. You can always walk away if your unsure or unhappy but from my experience you will be well advised and happy with any purchase.

dz4d1v, just the kind of reply I was after, thank you Smile

I didn't realise Captain's Cabin did moulding - I will drop them an email to discuss getting some done and to maybe "book" a few hours to spend with them.

Was this the Canterbury shop, or Chatham (before it shut down!)?

It was the Canterbury shop even though I live closer to Chatham. Chatham was seasonal and didnt always have the full range of services, plus would you rather visit Canterbury or Chatham, nuff said.
