Hello,
Please help my wife............very high arches, doesn't wear heels lots. Tried lots of boot, toes go numb, tears on mountainside, back to shop and the cycle continues. Can anyone advise on surefoot in Courcheval, good or bad or mixed? Or a good bootfitter in Courcheval/La Tania?

I assume you want one in Courchevel as you will be holidaying there..and want to get the fit sorted during that time..??
I don't know anyone there but your wife seems to have more than usual issues with her feet... so I would start with an expert in that sort of field to see how the foot sits on a platform and work out what help can be applied. It sounds like she has problems in normal type foorware as well..??
Go and see someone like CEM in Bicester to see which is the right sort of way to go..he should be able to get an opinion and then devise a way forward. At least that might let you know what type of thing you are up against.

Thanks for replies, the second problem we have is that we live in Jersey so a bootfitter in the UK is not easy. Oddly enough she rented boots a few years ago in the USA, they seemed OK so there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Was still wondering about opinions of surefoot.
After having problems with the rental boots in France we bought a pair in Les Arcs, Nordicas (GT8) from memory.....felt ok in the shop but tears on the slopes. A chap called Boris in a local shop helped out...customs soles but still no good. She seemed to be having pressure on the top of her feet that seemed to me to be cutting of blood flow.........then the toes go numb and it's a mad scramble to get the boots off. She loves skiing but I'm afraid if we don't get it sorted she will hate it and sack it for good. Going to La Tania 24/01/09.
Any advice on foam injected boots as I understand that's what surefoot do ?

mally, when I needed boot fitting in Courchevel, our very own SZK recommended Freeride - they are based in the Hotel Courcheneige right next to the green Bellecote piste.

mally, I know this might be a silly question but could it be that she is not doing up the boots correctly? Or she is doing them too tight?
If she has the clip that goes across the ankle/lower shin done up too much then that can cause her toes to go numb/get pins and needles and make her want to get the boots off in a hurry. Or doing up the toe clip too much deforms the liner and therefore could be creating pressure on the top of the foot?
As far as I am aware (I'm sure any expert bootfitters will be along to correct me if I'm wrong) but if the boot is correctly fitted with the right size shell and the right liner moulded as necessary for her foot with footbeds to support her arch as necessary (which is what a specialist bootfitter will select for her and advise on if she goes to one) she should not even have to crank up the toe clip, the first notch is all that should be needed because the foot is already held snug in the boot as it were.

mally, also, how long are we talking from when she has tried the boots on in the shop and her being supposedly happy with them, well as much as she can be anyway, to when she is skiing in them and then wanting to take them off because they are giving her grief?

i bought my boots (saloman x wave 10) in courcheval 1850. I bought them from and got them fitted by a guy called jaques in one of the ski shops...sorry not much help as i cant remember the name of the shop but everyone seemed to know this guy jaques (i guess he was about 55 ish) as being one of the best bootfitters in the town. If its any help the shop was within a few minutes walk of the main lift centre in 1850 so if you ask around I'm sure someone will be able to point you to his shop. However i also spoke to our chalet host whilst i was in 1850 and he recommended the same guys as eng_ch recommended - hotel courcheneige - so they might be worth a try also. Good luck.

Have looked on the net and found the shop. Its called couttets sports (www.couttetsports.com). The guy Jaques in there was really helpful to me and the boots (have done about 6 weeks in them so far since i bought them in feb 07) fit me like a glove and are really good/responsive etc. He was very knowledgable, spent ages trying to get the best boot fit for me and didnt push me into buying them at all (i spent a couple of days deciding before buying them)
Anway if you are in courch 1850 i would definitely put him on a list of boot shops to visit and be sure to ask for jaques.

Make an appointment with Bruno in Ski Higher (geddit) in La Tania - not on a weekend or Friday night though. Very patient, very experienced. Good at his job but a bit crazy (he races the local Saisonnaires on his Telemarks and usually wins...). La Tania shop +33 (0)479 088049 in Season.

alex99, I'd put in a second vote for Couttet Sports in 1850 and Jacques. He is a very helpful chap, did a great job for my husband when he bought boots there, and speaks excellent English having worked in the UK. He was recommended to us by Gareth Roberts at Supreme Ski School. For example, he didn't sell Mr DS custom insoles straight away as he said it was important to ski on the boots for a while before having the fitting completed - so he didn't push us to buy insoles. We are both hoping to go to CEM for a fitting before we go away this year, but I was impressed with Jacques and would go to him if I were getting the fitting done in France.
