Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flying to Mayrhofen

 Poster: A snowHead

I'm looking to tag onto a ski trip to Mayrhofen. The only part i don't like is that they're travelling by coach. If i where to organise my own flights and transfers where would be the best place to fly in to?

Innsbruck is closest, and as paulio says, it's a fun approach, but the drive from there to Mayrhofen is no problem.

Salzburg is another option, but it's a long transfer.

Innsbruck, but it can be a bit of a 'mare if you arrive/depart with all the other charter airlines (or was the last time I went there - maybe it's been improved since?).
About 45mins drive by car, maybe an hour or so on the transfer coach, and about same by train +/- a bit for changes and the shuttlebus.
Munich or Salzburg must be best part of 2hour drive, but may have better/cheaper flight options?

Nick-o, As said allready great aproach into Innsbruck right down the valley Shocked The choo choo is probably the best option to get to mayrhofen less hassle and no fear of traffic at the weekend. From memory it is about €50 to catch the train from Munich Enjoy

After a little more investigation I have some air miles to use up and i'm able to fly to Munich.

My final question, how far is the train station from Munich airport, is it a tube ride away or literally right next door like Geneva?

Nick-o, It's easy getting to Mayrhofen by train from Munich airport. As in the song, there are Three Steps to Heaven Toofy Grin :

Step 1: From Munich airport take the S8 S-Bahn line (overground light railway) to Munich Ostbahnhof, see here. The one way fare is 6.90 Euros

Step 2:From Munich Ostbahnhof take a train in the direction of Innsbruck. It crosses the border into Austria at Kufstein, and you get off at Jenbach.

Step 3: At Jenbach station you go to the platform for the Zillertalbahn (narrow gauge railway) which runs up the Ziller valley from Jenbach through Zell am Ziller to Mayrhofen

You can buy a ticket at the Munich Ostbahnhof for the combined journey to Mayrhofen. The DB german rail website has info on times and prices, a typical one way fare to Mayrhofen is 34.50 Euros.

Hope this helps!
