Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

scottishskier, just what I was thinking. If you leave your job and work for the TO will you still have a job to go back to in the Spring?

I took six months out to do a ski season, with a job in London to go back to in the spring...there was no going back though! My eyes had been opened Shocked I lasted two weeks when I came back to London, and then jacked it all in for good for a better life Very Happy

Joanne Mountainsun, this is always the risk - I got a summer job in France when I was out of work during a recession, am still here. Oops.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

resurrecting this thread as it looks like the flat owner I'm renting pour la saison hasn't heard that internet is as important as electricity and water...so although I pooh-poohed the idea of a usb stick earlier that is probably what I am stuck with apart from tromping across to the cafe..

My local CPW is offering a USB stick on a pre-pay basis, which sounds like a goodun. Anyone know whether the French networks offer something similar and at a realistic tariff (i'm currently seeming to use 5gb a month) - there's a cle 3g offer on the orange website which might work. Not sure I like the idea of paying 25 euros for 6 hours however - I can easily spend too long on here. Perhaps going skiing will reduce my internet addiction..

bertie bassett, I don't know the specifics, but my colleagues were using Orange last season and again this coming season - they think it works very well even when travelling around the Alps, so it may be worth investigating

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

As an aside, I work for a major global company whose French nerve centre is in Montpellier. Do you think it would be feasible to do the journey from there to the Alps on a once-a-week, staying overnight, working two days and driving back basis? I smell the sweet scent of summers in Languedoc and winters in Savoie....

Dunno but I'd of thought the Alpes Maritimes or Haute Alpes would be closer than the Savoie.

david@mediacopy, what I mainly interested in is transferring large 3D CAD files. I don't think Logmein would meet my full needs - but it looks like it may answer some, and I shall check it out further, thanks for the link.

If it's file transfer you need, something like www.yousendit.com seems to work well - a number of my clients are happy to use it even for confidential stuff

Yes, it is feasible. About 6 hours one way I would think. Unbearably hot in the summer, most Brits would combust if they spent too long in the region. Laughing
