Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Nightlife in Schladming

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
So our group trip this year will not be in Zell, as our apartments are all rented out to paying punters, so I was looking at Kitz, and apartments for our group of 8 are thin on the ground or very expensive, so as has happened time and time again, I keep coming back to the idea of going to Schladming.

H and I have been many times before and love it, and I think in terms of the skiing it would be perfect for our group, and in terms of accommodation I have a few options all good quality and good price, and I'm happy with the choice of restaurants etc., and then I start trying to think of bars to go to after skiing and after dinner, and I draw a blank.

Can anyone help out here? I have been to Schladders twice during race week which is obviously manic, and twice in March, which was a lot quieter, and I just can't think of any bars that aren't restaurants. Is there really very little nightlife in Schladming, or is it just that I haven't found it?

We're not a young group of students or 20-somethings or anything, but as it is a mixed group, I just want to be sure that those who want a few later drinks will be able to get them.

I don't need people to list bars by name or anything, just reassure me that there are a few options, or that you have had some good apres in Schladming. I don't want to take our pals there and have them all wondering why I picked it.

Ta in advance
D

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There are loads of bars in the town center and a few that stay open later up on the hill. It's not st anton but there's plenty of nice bars, live music, cafes, etc. Expect to pay around €3 for a large beer, probably more in some bars. If you like weisbier then order a bottle as you always get a pint-ish for €3.

There's the new huge apres ski centre at the bottom of the piste. Can't remember the name right now. Live music, apres and nightclub later on
Charly’s open air bar

In and around the main street
Siglu - iglu like bar - quite lively
Cabalou - very nice bar in middle of main street
Niederel Bar another glass bar in main street
Baci -good bar with pizza upstairs
Marias Mexican - good atmosphere
Papa Joe's - newish mexican but can visit just the bar and have live bands sometimes.
Tschgamuga - small pub like bar
La Porta - smokey late night bar near 2 kabab places!
Hanglbar - opens around 8 - good later on
Another bar near Hanglbar where you can order a kebab with your beer!

A few more I can't remember. I think most bars stay open til ealy hours. And don't forget numerous cafes that stay open late and hotel bars. Taxis normally easy top get hold of as well.

There's also Uncle Willys at the top of Planai that stays open late on a Wed, the gondola keeps going til later as well.
There's a couple of more bars up on the hill that stay open late on certain nights.

Just realised you said you didn't want a list of bars, nevermind typed it in now.

Deliaskis, I went to Schladming about 4 years ago with a couple of friends (3 women) - we just wanted somewhere with a bit of a lively atmosphere for a couple of drinks after dinner. There was a pretty OK bar in the central square opposite-ish the main hotel (old style big building - can't remember the name, sorry), and a couple of others, but really not that much, considering it was Austria. It was early March, and quite busy. There was certainly nowhere with dancing, which is what I always liked about Austrian resorts

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks guys, don't get me wrong, I really love Schladming and it's always somewhere I am happy to go back to, I just didn't want to 'over-promise' something to my pals and then it not be as expected.

However, I am now reassured, as I said we're not a bunch of beer hungry students or anything, but just wanted to be sure there were a couple of options.

Thanks waynos for the list anyway, now you have typed it, I will print it off for future reference, so your effort wasn't wasted! You out there now or heading out shortly? We should have a mini snowHead meet if you're out there when we are, H and I both have new very fat skis and are planning at least a day in Zauchensee if there's new snow when we're there, or at least nearly new snow that is undisturbed...

As well as offering great food, Charly's Treff, with open-air umbrella bar, is a lively tea-time après ski venue, boasting "hot wine and hot rhythms". Siglu is a small, busy bar; perfect for some lively après ski socialising and Neiderl also provides a small but friendly drinking venue. You can relax and unwind with a glass of wine at Marias - The Mexican Bar or enjoy dancing at the Sonderbar but it can be quite loud, Niederl in the middle of the square, which serves mouth-watering cakes and Beiel is also more quiet one.

I think it depends when you go. Last year when we went (2nd week in March) it was very quiet, only a handfull of people in most bars. The place at the bottom of the home run was very weird! it was all german but just strange, have you ever seen that film Dusk till Dawn?
Schladming does have an upmarket feel and the beer (schladminger) and food are very reasonable. Choose your week with care if you want some night life.

I went to Schladming back in January. The nightlife wasn't exactly rocking, in fact the best apres ski we found was in the little 'temporary' tent at the bottom of the Planai lift, mainly down to us being a large group who like singing to Queen songs and it had a B52-making machine! In the evenings, the igloo bar is worth a go, and the big nightclub at the end of the town (in the big wooden building) is pretty good.
