Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Boredsurfing, Your headline is worthy of the 'Torygraph' ! wink ... not just points but fines as well.

When you look at those stats for number and percentages of offenders caught by cameras you have to admit they have a point ; France is unsurprisingly leading this debate as they have a higher % international road 'visitors' than any other country ... apparently due to the country's location.

Pretty arrogant of us Brits to just blast through France illegally given the numbers of speed cameras in the UK .. looks to me as if we dont care on their roads as we know cameras dont catch up with fines and points.

( PS -- I appreciate Im speaking from a Glass-House ... but at least I pay the fines . just get away with the points Embarassed )

Agenterre, Those figures quoted are quite a surprise, in my limited experience I am amzed that the Belgians aren't top of the league Toofy Grin
But it has to be said the Germans are well ahead of the rest of us Laughing

Boredsurfing, Yes perception is a strange thing .. if youd asked me I would have said the Italians ... they behave very well on their own autostradas ime but as soon as they hit the A6 autoroute in France its 160 kph+ !!

( Mind you I do the same in Italy but fewer speed cameras until their new ' Between different locations' system.) rolling eyes

Having said that the Dutch be banned from driving outside Holland as they go everywhere at 23 kph with or without caravan. Twisted Evil

...........and your point is Puzzled wink

Agree really - I can't really see the need either - with a 130kph/80mph limit its not as if you're crawling. Plus you can maintain that speed for hours on end, so rapid progress is made.

I used to travel through France foot flat to the floor but noticed earlier this year that my car had a "cruise control" I have used it for the last 2 trips down to the Alps and have discovered with the cruise control set at 77-80 mph my mpg has gone from 26.5 to 32.5 and with fuel still sky high i shall continue to abide by the speed limits.

Those numbers are probably as much down to the numbers of people from each of those countries visiting France as to any national driving characteristics.

I suspect there are more than twice as many kilometers driven in France by Germans in any given year than by Brits.

And there simply aren't enough Belgians for them to be able to appear high in the stats wink

Plus their average speed is very low - what with stopping for chips and mayo every now and again

marcellus, a fair few, I reckon. I had a German friend who lived here but drove over to Germany to re-register it there at regular intervals (possibly yearly) so she could retain her immunity to British road cameras.

Your answer may be in this article about just ONE London council

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7675314.stm

Quote:
Foreign drivers owe a London council more than £4.5m in parking fines, it has emerged, with owners of luxury "super cars" the worst culprits.

Boredsurfing, FFS .. you drive in France , you know what it looks like. That post is no more than jingoism!

I drove back yesterday from Calais .. every other lorry and 10-20% of cars were non-French registered, albeit on the autoroutes.

Conversely I drove to London, Cardiff, Poole, Hamble and Worcester from Tuesday to Thursday .. and felt like a lonely leper in a French-registered car... several Polak-registered lorries but you'll have to explain that.

PS .. I drove at 120mph 'cos I could !

.... I'm also lying about the PS
