I visited Tahoe at Easter in 2003. We only had 4 days as we were combining it to a holiday to San Francisco.
We stayed in South Lake Tahoe and only skied at Heavenly, but I am aware that there are nicer places to stay and that if you are there for a week you should visit some of the other nearby mountains in order to get some variety. I have heard good comments about Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood.
I hated South Lake Tahoe and we completely failed to find a decent bar or restaurant. Very different from European resorts. It is probably better if you are part of a group and can make your own fun, rather than going as a couple and staying in a hotel, as we were.
But, the skiing was fantastic, with wide, quiet and well-groomed pistes, acres of off piste runs through the trees, some great double black diamond gullies, stunning views down from the mountain and across the Lake. Never queued more than 30 seconds for a lift. Basically, it is a really good place to ski (whatever your level) rather than party.
My other caveat is that the mountain restuarants at Heavenly are awful. Best to take snacks and just keep skiing.
I assume that you'll have access to a car, because you'll need one.

I stayed for 10 days at South Lake Tahoe last February. I agree with Tony that the mountain restaurants are awful, you get fed up with Chilli after a couple of days. My biggest disappointment was ordering a hot cider, from an outside kiosk in a blizzard, and finding out that it didn't have any alcohol!
The skiing is very good and if powder is your thing try the glades and chutes on the Nevada side. If moguls are your favourite then the Gunbarrel down to California Lodge takes some beating. Only problem I found, on a board, is getting back to California Lodge you have the choice between the afore mentioned steep moguls or a very shallow path with uphill bits.
As for South Lake Tahoe there are a few decent Tex Mex restaurants but the best place to eat is in the Caesars Palace Casino restaurant. All you can eat for $10, and the food is excellent, lots of variety. We had to eat at different restaurants every night (part of the organisation) but I would have preferred Caesars every night.
We ended up in the same bar most nights, the 'Irish' bar attached to the Super 8 Motel, nothing special but very friendly - got happy hour prices all night.
All in all a nice friendly resort.
