Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Potential lift linking Grand Massif to Les Gets

This is the link to the Les Gets council minutes where to me and my limited language skills the council approves Sagets to proceed with the development of the Chavannes - Mont Chery link.

Could be wrong and I am sure that someone with better language skills than me will put me right if I am.

@Chattonmill, I followed the work that was done just above GQ on webcam last year and I thought it looked like a reservoir right up until they covered it over. I believe that it is a back up drinking water reservoir designed to cope with high season demand. "Réservoir d'eau potable de Gibannaz".

From what I understand of the plans that I have seen, and again I could be wrong, it looks like the new gondola base on the Chavannes side will be approximately at the top of the TK Vieux Chene.

As we have spent many weeks on holiday in Les Gets ( and intend to spend many more) I would love to know if there is a real possibility of being able to ski to St Jean d'Aulps

@stevo_the_saddler, I agree. It will take that long to drive to haute Verchaix and over the top to the mooted site

@ian999, a. I'm not sure Stevo_t_s has been waiting for 8 years with baited breath for your reply and b. I don't understand what you're saying? "It" would take? "I(sp)" would take?

@Timc, we also thought that work near GQ was a reservoir. And that the gondola base would be more over on the slope below the school where masses of trees have been removed.

Yep QG works was definitely a reservoir, a big shortage has developed over the last 5-10 years with all the new builds, artificial snow making, hot tubs etc.

They are putting in a car park just below the school to access the gondola over to Mont Chery. And you can see a huge (10m high) retaining wall has been cut very sharply into Mont Chery slope just above the existing lift base.

@langball, we watched that huge retaining wall being built, but were not sure what it was for. Isn't the plan to have the lift going over the village with a cable and stations at each end?

that's the plan....am just guessing that construction is related to the new lift....don't see what else they could build there, unless some very brave individual is planning to build a chalet under a 10m wall holding back the mountain

Les Gets from say Ranfolly to Verchaix
Any ski run would have its slope facing SOUTH into sun.
The snow would melt as soon as the clouds clear.
It would be treacherously icy or rocky.
The best they could do is a road or narrow piste using trees to protect from the sun for most of the day.
It would a repeat of the Briancon-Puy St Vincent disaster.
You simply can not build a piste at low level into the sun.

As for a link between Chavannes and Mont Chery, the suggestion is a teleporter = beam me across Scotty.

I assume this would be like the one across the valley at Megeve = Rocharbois.
