Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

...consider travelling overnight by coach (it really isn't as bad as it sounds). Companies that specialise in this form of travel are typically substantially cheaper than "normal" companies.

I have used Ski Weekends for weekend breaks, but they also do week long trips.

E.g. for skiing the 3 valleys, a week in Jan would cost about £240 including coach and B&B accomm, at half term it would rise to about £480 for coach and half-board (based on 2 sharing).

They also go to to La Tania and Chamonix.

I have also used Oak Hall and Gold Hill Holidays who do similar coach based travel. These two both have strong Christian influences which may not be to everyone's liking.

With Gold Hill a typical trip would be about £540 and would include everything that you need - coach travel, accommodation, full board, insurance, lift pass, equipment and tuition.

With Oak Hall, there is a large variance in price, depending on the quality of the accommodation and the travel (coach or flight), but the prices are not dissimilar to Gold Hill.

Ray Zorro, Good point. Ski Olympic offer a coach option. The saving is typically £55-70 less than the fly option, plus one gets to ski almost 2 extra days. Not much faith on show, but very nice people.

No good to me I am afraid. I am not allowed to go on holiday with protestants or poor people.

I trust there is a punitive supplement for atheists.

Being on a coach for any longer than the transfer from airport->resort would ruin a holiday for me... those few hours are bad enough.

I agree that coach is a good option for a budget trip. It's considerably less travelling than going to most North American destinations and no less comfortable than cattle class on an airline. Few coaches give you less leg room than the back of an ordinary family car and thousands of people seem to cope OK with that. I don't know why people make such a fuss about coaches. I suppose it all depends on what sort of priority you put on skiing.

Done coach to France once and never again. It's bad enough on a 2-3 hour transfer! Yes, the leg room is rubbish on a plane but it's only 1 1/2 hours. In own car can stop when we want, have fresh air - colder or hotter, move seat and generally do what we want. I don't get an extra day skiing, I get an extra day being tired and grumpy, with a bad back. Two years ago, our group (of 26 or so) went with Olympic coach but three of us flew there. Four of us flew back though! Laughing

Sounds brilliant!!!! i could entertain myself on the coach by having deep debates about how there's no god. That's keep me going all the way to france no problem

PS My new book about how to make friends and influence people is out shortly Laughing

From the Oak Hall site "It’s amazing just being in the mountains and having God’s creativity & glory to look at every morning!......"(hummmm)

"planned with the 20’s and 30’s in mind, all who will join in to ensure the success of each holiday are welcome." (sounds promising)

"After an active day on the slopes, the highlight of every evening is a refreshing Bible study talk and the
inspiration of praising God together. " (oh dear oh dear oh dear....not like my usual ski trip )

not for everybody this

true... it's so, so much worse than it sounds, the longest 24 hours of my life and I was 18 - gawd knows how an adult would cope. Rob a bank, sell your granny, tap-up your friends but get the money to fly!

The first of those companies - Skiweekends is non-religious and could be for everybody.

I mentioned the other two because I doubt that there are any other holiday companies that could match their brochure prices.

It gets worse... "Please note... we are unable to carry alcohol in our coaches"

Coaches might be slightly cheaper (and IMO there's not a lot in it compared to a well planned air, train or car hol) but this is a holiday for crissakes (oops!) - you know, one of your precious weeks off. Even that rickety old puke-smellin' Snow Train beats a coach - at least you can lie down fully extended and sleep. Also, just a minor observation but nonetheless valid, how often do we hear about fatal coach crashes? Too often is the correct answer.

Try Action-Outdoors for a great and good value ski experience. Not your typical ski trip, but with ski hire, tuition and lift pass included they do a great deal. I've been on about 4 trips with them now - both independent travel and by coach - for a hassle free trip, the coach does have its plus points, especially at peak times, although it isn't for everyone.
