Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to buy Stockli Stormriders

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I'm after a pair of Stockli Stormrider XL's. Am having trouble finding anywhere that stock them.

Have thought of trying Switzerland but obviously don't know any shops out there.
Anyone know of any online shops over here or in Europe??

Cheers

Have contacted UK distibutor, wondered if anyone else has these skis and where they got them from.
Have found a couple of places in the US but by time postage and tax put on would they still be cheaper.

Found a pair at Denver wholesale Ski shop for $590 inc bindings, is this a good deal??
How much tax would be on these??
Confused

Lots! You'd pay VAT at 17.5% + import duty +excise duty + whatever fee the shipper charged you as a "handling fee"

European Union, for instance the USA, Canada, China, Australia
You will be charged:

Customs duty if the amount of duty is €10 (£7)* or over
Import VAT if the value of the goods is €22 (£1Cool* and over
Excise duty for some goods like alcohol and tobacco

Thats a don't bother then!!

Tried telemark-pyrenees, didn't have the model i wanted andprices seemed a bit steep.
Mind you don't know how much these usually go for.

Any ideas of other skis that might be easier to get hold of??

pediman, what things attracted you to the Stormriders. Something like a Volkl Mantra or the last couple of seasons' Dynastar Legend Pro offers similar stiffness and no too much sidecut but they're both quite a bit wider

maybe the Head IM 82?

590/1.84 = £320

That's a very good price. The duty is 3.5% and then 17.5% VAT on the total.

320 * 1.035 *1.175 = £389

Still not outrageous. If you can get them shipped USPS (ie. regular mail rather than a courier) you won't have handling fees, but delivery will probably ~£50 so I would think you're looking at a grand total of approx. £450 which is not exactly bargain bucket territory but then again you get what you pay for in some respects.

Stockli make great skis.

Arno - Was looking at the normal Apache recon route but read some so/so reviews about them.

Have read somevery good things about Stockli skis and it piqued my interest.

Looking to replace my old school K2 Extremes which i haven't used for a while, have just been renting.

As i've just moved up to Scotland and am in striking distance of the slopes (snow permitting!!!), thought it's a good time to buy a new pair.
Looking to re-aquaint myself with Argentiere this year ( which i haven't seen since the kids were born!!)

pediman, not sure how you would plan to get to Argentiere but if you went the long way round Lake Geneva and over the Col du Forclaz, I think you would go past the Stockli factory outlet. brian might be able to give you more details - he must drive close to it on the way to his pad

Yep, it's just off the autoroute at Vevey. About 45 minutes from Geneva airport.

I guess you'd be about another hour via Martigny to Argentiere.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

On the subject of Stormriders - I've got a pair of the 05-07 seasons model which I understand were the last stormriders to be made with a wood core. I'm slightly apprehensive about getting a new pair now they've moved to foam. Has anyone skied both types? If so, a comparison/review would be wonderful!.

snow_gibbon, no, the 08 XL came in 2 flavours,

wooden http://en.stoeckli.ch/main/skis/collection/freeride/stormrider_xl/

and synthetic http://en.stoeckli.ch/main/skis/collection/freeride/stormrider_xl_ed/

the synthetic version is their iso-core, which is involved in a sandwich with some fibre glass and multiple sheets of titanal. I suppose there may be some dubiety over the longevity of the flex, but noodles they are not !

Note that the XXXL is replaced by the VXL for 08/09.

Bigger tip, deeper sidecut.
