I am essentially a one week a year holiday skier. I'm totally kitted out for that trip and can't justify any more spending. I'm highly unlikely to order from the new S&R catalogue that I've been sent and I know that. So can someone please tell me why I'm still enjoying looking through it?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I find myself sneaking onto the sofa and flicking through the pages when there is no-one around to catch me not doing something productive. I don't do it with a Gratton catalogue, but the S&R one is a totally different beast. It's good to see the shots of folks actually skiing in the gear - they must have some good people who are good to look at and who can also ski!!

It dropped through my letter box today and it was good read...
I don't need anything but I expect I'll pop by and buy something sometime before the season kicks off

I find it is just a sign that winter is almost here.
I haven't had time to sit and look at my catalogue properly. Looking forward to it though!!

I keep looking at jackets. My £50 one from TKMaxx just looks dull, dull, dull. (But at least I don't look "All the Gear - No Idea" .)

It's a catalogue, read it and decide for yourself, but by no means is this the gospel, read on.

New stock doesn't seem to be available online yet though. There are still some reasonable jackets etc with discounts. Might have a little browse in our local tomorrow just to get a fix.
Isn't the Ellis Brigham catalogue due soon......

Hmm, I got a new jacket and pants for my 40th (Schoffel, really pleased with them and so far worth the extra, only time will tell) but seem to be trying harder not to make a prat of myself

If you want to look hard-core then well used gloves, jackets, trousers etc with lots of gaffa tape, but top grade skis is the way to go.

snowball, quite right - in the US cheapo yellow leather work gloves at 10$ a throw are the sine qua non of ski-cred.
Gaffa is now available in plenty of colours.

stoatsbrother, French DIY shops do a similar glove with Thinsulate insulation.

rjs, yep - there are now also lots of gloves which look like work gloves but are technical ski gloves.

stoatsbrother, is that sad or what? However, I have discovered that my local Arco safety store is a good place to get cheap gear by the likes of North Face, Berghaus, Timberland etc. although the range is somewhat limited and you have to be comfortable in a Hi-Vis yellow or orange fleece
