Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Zealand’s Mt Ruapehu season extended

The Mt Ruapehu ski season has been extended until November 16th after some of the best snow falls on record. The base is currently almost 5m, and more snow is forecast to fall this week. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, the Mt Ruapehu ski area operator, has announced that it will extend the 2008 ski season by three weeks....Whakapapa is closing as scheduled but, provided the snow holds, it is likely to re-open for Christmas skiing from Boxing Day until early January 2009.

Meanwhile, snowHeads are also reporting snow in some of Europe’s resorts. Could this mean another great season ahead?

I love summer skiing on Ruapehu. Ski up the mountain in the morning. Stop at 1pm then head to lake Taupo for an afternoon of waterskiing and a BBQ on the beach. Those were the days.

Five meters of snow is a huge base. That's twice their longterm average. NZ has had a great season.

Has it I seem to remember that is was a little slow at the start but I may be wrong rolling eyes
