Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zermatt questions

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am heading to Zermatt to do my BASI EMS at the end of november and have been looking into prices of accomodation and lift passes. I am going to be arriving on the 22nd and leaving on the 28th. From the information that BASI have provided, they are charging £340 for half board and lift pass. Expensive? I think so!

My first question is about the lift pass. In the BASI info it says that with the ISIA qualification I can get 50% discount on the listed price (264CHF for 5 days), but the course dates fall into the 'summer skiing' sports pass.
Does anyone know the ISIA discount works in the summer too? And does this pass cover all the ski lifts that will be open?

Secondly, does anyone know of any resonable accomodtion(price and quality), preferably half board but b&b would be fine, that isn't too far from the "BASI" accomodation and the lifts(matterhorn express)?

The main idea here is to get it done cheaper than the 'deal' Puzzled that is on offer from BASI!

Many thanks,

Andy

freestyleandy, I think the price is pretty good to be fair. Take the lift pass out and they are asking £35.00 per night half board - you want it cheaper???? Puzzled

Nickster, They are looking more in the region of £45 per night, the summer pass will only cost me £65, and on the theme of it not actually being the 'ski season' I think this is a little much. Hence I am open to suggestions
Very Happy

a one day pass for the klein matterhorn is 77 francs, no way around that (unless you know different with this isia thing). Cheapest decent hotel I get is 100 francs B&B (I mainly use the weisshorn) Seems an ok deal with the basi to be honest.

freestyleandy, is £340 for half board and lift pass i.e £45 per night for your own room with private bath and wc or sharing the room with another delegate or having the loo and showers down the hall for example?

Personally I think if that's for your own room with own loo and bath then that's pretty good to be honest even though it is slightly out of season when you are going.

VolklAttivaS5, being BASI it will be a shared room, but I suppose the hemizeuss isn't that bad. And just having another thought, if the course gets cancelled for any reason, at least if I book with BASI i can get it transferred to a new date or get a full refund. Another problem I have found from searching is that alot of hotels are closed untill the start of december. BASI may have won this time............

freestyleandy, hmmm. Well true that it is for 6 nights not 7 nights as well. Yeah, just go with that because at least the other 17 people will bound to be staying there as well so you'll have the social bit of it as well. It still isn't a bad price even if you have to share with another bloke.

Hi Andy.

i''m out to Zermatt for BASI 2 at the back of November, and had exactly the same reservations as you about the rather high cost of BASI's deal. The Matterhorn Hostel worked out at a little under £18 a night so google that and see what you find.

Good luck.

How did you get on with this? I just booked a 2 bed apartment/studio with toilet, bath and kitchen opposite the matterhorn lift station for 50 chf/25 quid a night for my basi ting in november. Ski pass I have to pay full wack but 7 days in an apartment for 350 francs is awesome I think.

Just lucky I guess, I have some connections I could have bugged but I would hate the opposite to happen to me so I left it, prefer to pay my way.
Was toying with the idea of commuting to the course, it's only 2 hours in the car for me but the kandersteg tunnel thing is 20 bucks a pop plus petrol on top which made the apartment the better deal.
Don't know why I need the kitchen though, I thought between mcdonalds and paperla pub I'd be sorted. Laughing

stab, Woudn't fancy driving every day to Zermatt. I only did it once last year through the kandersteg tunnel and enjoyed a half day at Saas Fee on the way. snowHead Enjoy Zermatt as we enjoyed Wengen and Zermatt last year.

stab, I ended up just using the BASI stuff, when I worked it all out it all with food etc, it was something like £40 difference in their price and going independant. I decided it was worth the £40 not to have to cook/buy food when i'll probably be knackered from walking up mountains all day Laughing Laughing

stab, North Wall bar does a good Pizza and cheap (for Zermatt) beer too. It's just around the corner from the Paperla. Constant ski (no boarding I don't think) porn on the TV.
