Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Christmas in cancelled

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
For various reasons it appears I won't be doing Christmas this year.

This means I may be able to make good use of some money and snaffle some time.

Here's the thing. Due to the dodgy knee fiasco and resulting fear, I really want to get some one to one instruction, all on my own and at my own pace before heading off for the usual jaunts. I'd thought of booking some time at the chill factore (just down the road) but due to the change in circumstances (and as long as I can get a couple of days off work) I should be able to get off to some real snow.

So, just me. So, I need somewhere easy to get to that meets the following:

Short break around 15th December.
Accommodation I'm not fussy.
Not hideously expensive.
Ski area, not an issue - think small might be better, you may suggest otherwise.
Need to hire equipment.
Decent teacher around Smile
Err. Snow essential!

Any ideas? I've been having a quick look around organised weekends away, but they give me a bit of fear to be honest, and I want to do this on my own, but I usually just do family type trips through tour operators so I'm slightly flummoxed at the choice.

The world is my lobster!

See, that's dead easy to say. What does that entail? I need more specific information I'm afraid. Haven't ever done such a thing before so don't really understand what's involved/what I need to think about.

All I know is, I want to do it and I can.

kittya, was just kidding, easiski does a lot of these types of things. Send her a P.M or run a search-there has been heaps recently on what she does.

Or look on her website, www.easiski.com for more info. You could stay at the Lutins, a very nice B&B hotel with a great bar. And it's not expensive and is across the road from the main lift up to the glacier. The owner is a lovely lady too. Nearest airport is Grenoble. There is car hire (about an hour and a half or less to LDA) or a bus. Easiski would be able to help with timetables. She will also sort you out with ski hire too. Anything else?

kittya, I would second the suggestion about easiski. You won't find a better way of regaining your confidence and there will definitely be snow because the top skiing in Les Deux Alpes is on a glacier (not that you are likely to have to go that high in December!).

If you are very keen on a package, you could look at the courses run by some of specialist outfits, such as Snoworks.co.uk or inspiredtoski.com

But you would be part of a small group on those courses - it depends how much you want to be alone!

kittya, Look for flights to Grenoble. Bensbus for transfers to the resort possibly. Lutins is ideally situated and looks fine but I haven't stayed there. No web site to book though so you have to ring them. Then Contact Easiski for superb intruction and hire of equipment Smile

I'd get in touch with easiski first, in case she didn't have any spaces available that week! She will also give lots of help on the arrangements. Try it, it'll be easier than you think. snowHead

 You know it makes sense.

I'll offer an alternative - book with Ski New Gen in Courchevel 1650..into perhaps a group and then arrange a couple of private lessons in advance with them to boost the confidence. In 2 hours I went from a skiing numpty to getting down a decen green and then the following day joined a class at least 1x higher than I would have done otherwise. Their instrcutors REALLY REALL are 1st class.

Only downside is that it might be a little snow unsure at that time of year...

kittya, As all above have said re: Easiski BUT I'd also say just go for it - Alone? Schmalone!.

I went on my first ever ski holiday alone and had a ball! It WAS a package, but I chose a smaller, family-type resort and was only alone when I wanted to be, but wasn't lonely. I learnt to ski (after a fashion) and it led to the obsession that has had me in it's grip ever since! I've been on a lone ski holiday again since then, and would do it again if I had to (or wanted to.....) - it has lots of pluses and if you are happy with your own company (and have a good book...), not many minuses. Very Happy

Thank you all.

easiski, I will mail you. Smile

Mogs, doesn't look as though I'd be able to fly to grenoble before 20th December (based on a quick look!) Sad

I shall have a proper think around dates tomorrow - I may have been a bit previous with the grandmother's availability (whoops!).

More thinking to do - day off tomorrow Very Happy

Apologies to those who's suggestions I haven't taken, though I'm grateful for your thoughts. Work have confirmed the leave, grandma has confirmed the childcare & wotnot.

I thought this was going to be dead easy, I live less than 10 minutes away from Manchester International airport & can I find reasonable flights to anywhere sensible before 20th December? No I Cannot! It's ridiculous! [rant/]

easiski, I can't get to Grenoble at the time I have available (not without spending 11 hours waiting for a connection somewhere:()

It looks like I'm going to Austria, which will be lovely & delightful & snowy & skitastic, etc, etc,. I've never been so all in all an adventure in the making...

Ta much snowheads

Have you tried lyon as an alternative to grenoble. IIRC it's a bit further away for L2A but it's doable
