hello all


looking at montgenevre for 2009 trip,ideally want to ski beyond local boundaries into italy etc. I am unsure how difficult it is to leave local area,Ihave tried looking at on-line piste maps but they all appear pretty small and hard to read. what are the runs out of montgenevre and back like?blue ,red or black. any help greatly appreciated

skitrish, briefly, it is very easy to ski into Italy from there, but if there is a shortage of snow you will be restricted to the resort next door (Claviere) without having to rely on public transport. If the snow is plentiful, then access to all of the Milky Way is available.
The run out of Montgenevre can be a little technical as it is a narrowish, steepish track joining up with Claviere. If that doesn't appeal, you could drop down the ski de fond circuit next to the main road.

To access Italy the obvious run is a difficult black. but you can instead take a path to the left which bypasses the black bit (which is only at the top) but still couldn't be called easy. The problem when I was there was that that run was south facing and a bit icy. Returning is a fairly easy red.

The way that ski schools take lower classes to Italy is from the bottom of Tremplin to Claviere along the cross country pistes. It requires a bit of poling but is downhill all the way. Claviere is about 100metres lower than Montgenevre.

The conventional route requires a red at minimum which isnt good for people who have a disposition with height or don't like steep pitches. This is the red It however is only steep for a short period. So if you don't like it sideslip down.

Ah yes, I see there are blue ways to get there. I always went via "Rocher de l'Aigle" which has some very good steep off piste on the Montgenevre side which you can see from the lift.
