Poster: A snowHead

My knees have gone all "clicky" when I walk. Both of them, but especially the right.
This has been on and off for a couple of weeks since I stood up to get off a 3 hour flight and could barely walk as they were so seized up.
They don't hurt - well maybe a dull sort of ache like you get in cold damp winters - but they don't feel quite right. Anyone know what this might be. Will I need new legs? Will I have to drink a pint of cod liver oil every day?

paulio, Have you tried taking glucosamine sulphate tablets ?
I'm sure one of the doctors will say that it is just a placebo, but it is cheap enough and seems to work for me.

If it tastes better than cod liver oil, I'll look into it.

rjs, I may be wrong but I think the glucosamine has been proven useful, but the chondroitin (which is often mixed with it) has not shown similar effectiveness.

It's my understanding that glucosamine has been shown to be effective in synovial joints - as the knees are synovial I would have thought that it's worth a try.

I'm probably doomed to a lifetime of crepitus.

paulio, I went through a period last year were I had a clicking right knee and dull aches from it. I went to see the physio and they diagnosed pattella tendonitis and inflammed fat pads?? She also said that the clicking was from a pattella tracking problem and the tendon moving over some cartilage or something. I had some physio on it and some specific excercises to strengthen other muscles, I also took some anti-inflammatories. It took about 4-5 months to eventually sort out.
Short version - You know your own body, if something is not right go and see the doctor, get a physio referral and if needed see a knee specialist.

Big jar of cod liver and glucosamine pills purchased, each one approximately the size of a submarine, two to be taken daily.
We shall see.
