You don't log on for a day or so and when you do you find all hell has been let loose. Such an innocent post by PG at the start which raised some valid points which merited consideration. Such vitriol afterwards was incredulous and indefensible. As an ex member I don't care what the ski club does as it is there own affair. If their membership is thriving then all well and good. If not then suggestions on how to alter their image you would have thought would be welcomed, not necessarily heeded but welcomed never the less. Certainly the antagonistic posters on this topic to me have not enhanced the ski clubs image one bit.

Pete Horn, I suspect you're right re challenge versus threat. Emotions were running high. Things that would be regarded as normal in speech can seem more stark in writing. That's a problem with forums: the writers are generally in conversational mode, whereas the readers may not be. I don't think anyone that has posted actually wishes physical harm on anyone else. As you say, peace and love are in order now!

David Goldsmith, I was very disappointed by it. She's no writer. I was reminded of when Private Eye referred to her attack of eye strain as 'I strain' -- overuse of the personal pronoun. I suppose that's not surprising in an autobiography, but Lady T's effort seemed a more than usually self-centred example of the genre.
