Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Rust

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all. I got a new board back in April - a K2 Titan. I have used it quite a bit at MK and Tam but no mountain use yet.

To my horror I have noticed that the edges have rust spots in quite a few places. In one place there is a patch of corrosion about 5mm long. Is this normal, is there something wrong with my board or am I not looking after it properly? I do tend to dry it off after use (although not particularly thoroughly) but I did think that boards would be made of hardier stuff as they are designed to be used in wet conditions.

I have also noticed that some parts of the ratchets on the bindings (the pins and springs bit) also seem to be rusty - I've got Burton Missions.

Could someone please advise what proplems this could cause and whether I should take it back to the shop?

rust on the edges isnt really anything to worry about as it will file off easily. it would help to wax after use and leave the excess wax on, this will stop the edges rusting.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Get a gummi stone, that'll take it off no problems without doing any damage to the edges, it's nothing to worry about. To avoid it in future use zardoz notwax over the base when you finish boarding, it'll protect from rust no problem.

Not sure about the bindings.

i've got missions and can't see any rust on mine. a quick squirt of wd40 when you're putting stuff into storage will drive off any moisture. dab off with a rag afterwards to remove any excess and avoid getting on any fabric or material finished parts because it will probably stain.
