Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tell me about ski poles - genuine question!!

Hurtle,

Just to say that you are right if you want a trigger to get out of the back seat.. I just don't think short poles will do it correctly.
It depends how you reach forward..might not be the correct thought process here, but it is important for the shins to be pushing forward which should bring the rest of the body shape along with it. That is why poeple talk about flexing at the angles. If the bend is at the waist then you will not achieve much...and never really get out of the seat. If you could see that body position (bending at the waist ) it would look bad, IMV.

JT, absolutely aware of all these things, particularly of not bending at the waist. But my overly long poles of yesteryear definitely did nothing for my stance. Nowadays things are much better, except when I get in a flap on what brian refers to as firm snow, when the tendency is, unfortunately, to lean back - whatever the length of the poles. wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hurtle,

Icy situations should be the time when you really focus about getting the position right. Take the 4 o'clock run that has been glazed over by all the skiers coming down late in the day. That is the tester and you need to give yourself a chance here to ski it.

I never understand why people avoid this...should be a good oppurtunity to see where your skiing is, IMV

No thanks, I'd rather sit up the hill with a gluhwein or two and come down an hour or so later Toofy Grin if you're lucky there might even be a stripe or two of corduroy as the bashers are doing their work.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
