Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Three men killed skiing in the Snowy Mountains in one day

One skier was killed in an avalanche and two others died after crashing in New South Wales’ snowfields in Australia yesterday. Police and rescue services last night retrieved the body of Tom Carr-Boyd, who was buried under snow and ice in the Kosciuszko National Park. It was the first death due to an avalanche for about 30 years in the Snowy Mountains....The accident happened just 2 hours after two men, Kevin Lane and Malcolm Ripper, suffered fatal injuries in separate downhill skiing accidents at the Perisher Blue resort, about 10km away. Both men had crashed into a tree.

There have been big falls of powder and other soft snow in most ski areas of Australia this season, (although the island state Tasmania is having a fairly average year for snow).

There was another bad accident when an intermediate grade skier at the major Victorian resort of Falls Creek headed straight down the fall line of a black run. He couldn't turn, couldn't slow down and slammed into the side of a brick building at an estimated 80 kmh. He had a crushed skull, but was still alive when they carted him away to the resort hospital, which was only 200 metres away.

This light snow is being whipped around by unusually strong winds resulting in big cornices. The avalanche at Blue Lake in New South Wales appears to have been a cornice collapse. Here is a picture of the cornice on Mt Feathertop in Victoria. I'm taking a bunch of novice climbers up there next weekend! I make sure they stay WELL back from the edge!

Note the maniac skiing down the face below the summit!
