Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've just bought a Sims 163, spent ages in TSA in Covent Garden trying to decide on size but seems about right for my height and...ahem....weight....

Your right Philip and I would go even futher and say that the length of the board is almost irrelevant. I you look at most boards they now have a stiffness rating and this is really what will give you a better idea of how it might suit you, sir! The heavier you are or the more agressive (i.e. fast) you riding is the stiffer the board should be to suit your style. Flexible boards are great for beginners as they are forgiving, up to a point anyway. If you are heavy and want to go into deep powder on slopes that aren't very steep then you will need a physically long board, otherwise you will just sink and not be able to move.
Try and hire before you buy as you might be suprised how much you love or hate the board that you thought would be perfect for you.
Cheaper (i.e. non-branded boards) are often just as good as the big names.
So in summary, your board will always be a compromise unless you always ride the same conditions and at the same speed. Ultimately you will probably want at least two different boards (one for piste and one for powder).
