Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mont Blanc Tunnel Crash

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The Mont Blanc tunnel was closed for an hour this morning after a driver was 'flashed' travelling at 165km/h. He lost control of his car and hit the armco barrier blocking the tunnel. The accident occured near the exit with France...
Police are* investigating reports that the Italian driver was reading his Chamonix PowderAlarm SMS on his mobile phone at the time of the accident. He will appear before a judge at Bonneville this afternoon.

the question is whether he'll be appearing before the judge in a plastic bag? 165km/h!! Nutter!

I'm surprised to find out that it is 90kp/h which is the same speed as on highways.

Before anyone takes it too seriously I made the SMS bit up - but knowing the Italians love of mobile phones I can think of no better excuse to give the judge this afternoon.

I found this on PisteHors.com:

"In the first week of operation 600 hundred drivers have been fined for speeding in the Mt Blanc Tunnel. The fastest driver was an Italian driving at 150 kp/h, he was fined 900 €. The speed limit in the tunnel is 70kp/h with strict enforcement by radar."

doesn't mean it is true through.

Que? According to the Tunnel Web Site the limit is a maximum of 70 km/h and there is a minimum limit of 50 km/h also. Minimum distance between vehicles is 150m and you can be on-the-spot fined for infringement of any of those limits... so they are pretty serious about it.

Sounds about right J2Dave, mont blanc tunnel is incredibly slow. 70km is about 40 mph i think. Plus they only allow so 10 cars or so in at a time. Perhaps they will make it stricter with mid-tunnel stop barriers! What a nutter.

...But thinking about it: perhaps it was actually at the exit on the french side - i.e actually outside of the tunnel. It must have been for him to get sms messages? . It is very steep and bendy there and hard enough without reading a phone message.
