Is it necessary to put ski tip and tail protectors on the skis?
You always see them on rental skis but why?

Big ball of bubble-wrap round each end GordonFreeman, you'll look like you're skiing on huge cotton buds! Go on, I dare you to do it!

GordonFreeman, rental skis do 70-80 days per season (min), some rental shops will make them last many seasons, others want to sell them off after a season or two. Punters don't care how they treat rental skis, hence hire shops protect them. Makes sense. My skis do 100-200 days before they die, never had tip / tail protectors and never see the point...

Yup - rental skis are often used as walking poles on the way back to the hotels. Those roads don't half wear down the tips
