Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where will I go?

We were going to go back to Selva next year but have decided to maybe go back to France. We are already going to Italy over New Year but our "main" holiday is for Feb.

Have already been to Les Deux Alpes and was thinking of going to Val D' Isere or Morzine. One expert and one intermediate (blues, easyish reds!). Where in France should I go?

Cheers!

I've not been to Val d'Isere, but I can heartily recommend Morzine. Loads of intermediate skiing, with some good blacks and off piste for experts. It maybe worth considering Les Gets, which is part of the same sub-section of the PDS as Morzine with the advantage of being a bit cheaper. It's further to get across to Avoriaz and the main PDS circuit, but if you have a car you can easily drive to Ardent and get straight into the Avoriaz lift system.

jb1970, Morzine.

jb1970,
Both will be very busy any week other than the first in Feb as it is French holiday time. Both have good skiing, Morzine is a bit cheaper and IMHO is more pleasant as a place. Being lower it is less snow sure particularly at resort level though in Feb this is unlikely to be a major concern.

jb1970, as a gay (and presumably childless) man, what are you doing going skiing in February (and indeed New Year)? Are you mad? Laughing

New Year is sorted as I am going to my in-laws in Northern Italy, partner is from Valle d'Aosta, and his Aunt lives within easy reach of Gressoney, Cervinia, Champorcher, Pila, La Thuile, etc; its great, because we can ski a different area each day. All we need is our flights (which are booked).

We are going (I should say we have booked the time off work as we haven't decided where to go yet!) on Saturday 7 February which is a week before the School Holidays (School Holidays start the week of Saturday 14 February).

British school holidays are that week, French start the week before, French resorts will still be busy.

jb1970, New Year sounds spiffy, but you have miscalculated Feb a bit, given the French school thing. However, I did notice that 2Alpes was less busy than usual last Feb, mainly because the good snow conditions meant that hols in the smaller/lower resorts were viable and lots of French families went there rather than to the expensive 'usines de ski' favoured by the rest of us. (This assessment from a French father-of-several on the lifts at Alpe du Grande Serre.)

jb1970, to add to the chorus above. Go the week before, will be a different world out there. Or, if you have to go that week, go somewhere other than France.
