Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Welcome to snowheads!

Maybe you should try a specialist ski boot fitter.

Profeet.co.uk are well thought of.

Laura, welcome to SnowHeads.

Check out profeet, go to the ski boot section and select 'ladies' from the pull down menu. I can't give a direct URL to that because it's a 'flash' site or some such. Anyway, that gives a description of the geometries of several popular makes/models. To cut a long story short, Nordica GTS8 and Tecnica X8 look like good bets.

If you live within range of Fulham, profeet do a complete biomechanical analysis and custom fit. I bought some new boots there last week (Salomon X-wave 8.0s), and I was very impressed with the whole process.

I have a similar problem and it took ages to find boots that worked for me. Eventually a good fitter suggested Nordica and I now have pain free skiing (excluding falls).
As Bootneck says try Nordica and good luck.

Technica is another make which has wide fittings.

As I understand it - Austrian designed boots tend to be wider and squarer as this suits an Austrian foot. Italian boots tend to be narrower for Italian feet.

I have rectangular shaped flat wide feet and last season invested in a pair of wide-fit Technica ladies and can't recommend them enough!

Tecnica gets my vote as well. I have wide feet - including a bony lump on the outside of the widest part) and my Tecnicas (last year's model - X7, with custom footbeds) have given me no problems at all. If anything, now the liners have had a bit of a hammering the boots are not snug enough!

I have just purchased a pair of Beast 10 boots as i also have wide feet. I had tried a few Salomon's and Head and i found the Nordica were the best fit for me. I tried the Salomon Performa 8 which had loads of toe room but didnt seem as comfy and gave me more pain on the shin compared to the Nordica. My last pair of boots, Nordica GP 05 were just to tight around the toes. They must have changed the design on the new models or my feet have spread as when i purchased them 3 yrs ago they were great. Roll on Nordica.

What were your symptoms that led you to beleive that the boots were too narrow? Obviously, pain of some sort but what exactly were you experiencing? Also, how do you determine the width of your feet? I measured and the ball of my foot is 3 inches. I have a pair of Burton Freestyle boots that I bought over 3 years ago and it took me this long to realize, it really shouldn't hurt so much to ride! My feet feel like they are being constricted and squeezed until they go numb. I have terrible heel lift too. I am looking to find a new boot that will fit my square flat feet. Any advice is greatly appriciated!

I'm with the Technica crew on this: I have wide feet and have been using my X7 happily for a couple of seasons now.

Try Strolz boots in Lech Austria. They speacialise in unsual feet and make many models including one for very large feet.

Strolz are also sold at many sports chains and shops in places like Vienna, St Anton, Salzburg etc.

One final thought - make sure you have a proper pair of footbeds made up. I thought I had wide feet, but it just turned out that my arches were collapsing. Once I had a decent footbed made that supported my arch, my feet turned out to be "normal" width. Also pushed my knees round so they now point forwards rather than pointing inwards - I always wondered why they did that!)

good advice Masopa - its amazing the way a footbed can transform a foot's shape when its properly supported and it helps alsorts of alignment issues elsewhere.

I always thought Nordica's were a low volume and quite narrow boot but that was quite a while back - i think its safe to say that shapes and fits from each manufacturer change season by season.

Hi - Footbed will stabilize the feet and redistribute pressure to enable your feet to relax, therefore is a must for a good fit. The Nordica Beast range is the widest boot out there at the momnet and features a far better buckle system than most. Ensure you get a good boot fitter though - not you know who

Profeet recommended a pair of Nordica Beast's for me. The boots were stretched when they were fitted and are the first pair of boots I've had which don't feel like they are crippling me. Money well spent in my opinion, both for the Profeet fitting service and to Mr Nordica for designing boots for oddly shaped feet.
