Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Places I've been and would go for a season:
Zermatt, Switzerland
Davos, Switzerland

New Places I'd consider:
Whistler, Canada
Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Now if only this hypothetical situation would come true...

Switzerland.

Davos. Nice train transfer. Big area. Comfortable hotels. Decent scoff. No riff raff.

Why all the Jackson?

I know it has its fans and a certain relatively new member is doing a great PR job on the attractions of neighbouring Idaho. I've never had the pleasure of skiing there but have been through a couple of times in the off season (and probably could have skied Teton pass if I'd had a local hook up)

I'd guess -

snowfall & quality
terrain
backcountry
"real" skitown vibe
far enough from big cities not to be an urabn parking lot at weekends
targhee over the back

fatbob, ski there - you will see.

Apart from anything else - the standard of skiing and politeness tends to be so high, it is a nice low stress environment. Great book shop, 3 cinemas. 3 Thai restaurants. Great liquor store. etc etc etc

stoatsbrother, for a "seasonaire" the list could be narrowed to "Great liquor store"!

Would do it again but I'd prefer going to Hokkaido for the powder and the girls..

I've not done any research on resorts though...

stoatsbrother,

A Utah/Jackson/Targhee trip is defintely on the cards at some time. If there was a direct flight into SLC I'd have done it already.

A Utah trip is well worth the added hassle. Via Chicago isn't too bad at all.

I could do...

Park City
Jackson
Morzine (done 3) - extensive skiing, great people, all the necessary...

I could quite fancy Montana...(the state, not the lap-dancer although I could quite fancy her too)

I would so not do Val d'Isere/Tignes

Thankfully not really a pipe-dream... I've got next winter off and should be in Whistler (if all things go to plan). Upon my return I shall then be very pleading with my superiors to quit university and get back to doing the job I want to be.

OK - summer fantasy thread. Your employer or clients or pension provider or student grant provider say

"You've been doing a great job - have next winter off and here's some cash to tide you over".

Where do you go & why?

The rules

You can only go to one place.
Its fantasy not reality so don't just say the place where you happen to have an appartment etc.
You haven't won the lottery but have enough to live off without working for the winter.
You don't have a crystal ball to forecast where snow will fall.
You have willing childcare and/or partner.
You are allowed occasional day trips to adjacent places but this can only be a minor factor.
You are allowed beaches etc but you really have to justify why you're posting about it on a ski website.
La Ros has been shut down for the winter to level the playing field for other less awesome places.

Been there; done it (and still doing it). Tignes!

Kenzie, I was waiting for someone to say Tignes. I'm going there at the beginning of the season for 3 weeks which is the longest I've been way so far, although big plans coming for next year to go for longer!

Can you tell me what you like about Tignes that keeps you going back there?

In no particular order:-

The people.
The snow. http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=31142
The length of the season.
The bars.
The lack of pretension.
Tignes Airwaves.
The ski area.
Ease of access for friends (jet2 to Chambery).

Kenzie, excellent. Yeah personally I love it there too. I think it will be my choice of destination when I go for a season in 2009/2010 or at least part of, maybe 6 weeks.
