Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski season starts in South Africa as FIS Congress gets underway

The ski season in South Africa has started, as the 2008 FIS Congress gets underway in Cape Town. Tiffindell Ski Resort, South Africa's only resort, is located 1,177k from Cape Town and 817k from Johannesburg. It guarantees over 3 months of skiing each year, starting at the end of May.
The 46th International FIS Ski Congress began on Sunday night, with more than 1,000 participants. They are taking part in the many official meetings of the FIS Council, Technical Committees and Working Groups. ...One of most important items on the Council's Agenda includes the confirmation of the FIS World Cup schedules for the 2008/2009 season. Also, the candidates of the FIS World Championships 2012/2013 will deliver their final presentations to the 17 members of the FIS Council, which will elect the different host cities of the 2013 Alpine, Nordic, Freestyle, Snowboard and 2012 Ski Flying World Championships.
